Always find it amazing how much these coaches have to travel in season to recruit. Kid doesn't have many offers yet so good to get some early looks in case he starts to blow up as a sr.

My mom, who grew up in Virginia, has finally convinced me, after decades of driving through Wythesville, VA (named after George Wythe), on the way to points south of Ohio, that it is pronounced with a short y sound, not a long y sound. Like the y in gym, not like the y in why.

Normally I would fire off a post telling you this is a recruiting board. Take your conversation over to Google Maps and be the pronunciation police. But it is the Holidays so I will be tolerant of your misguided use of this board :)

I found the pronunciation guidance handy - have driven through there many times on excursions southbound - and will be again in a couple weeks. Would have never guessed that was how it was pronounced.

He's got some nice hops. Not much D being played in that video, but he takes it to the hole strong and finishes well.

Not sure what his position is. Is he a short SG or a combo or a PG? Says he is a PG but do not see him running to O much

Coaches always ask me to get them game tapes for that very reason. Hard to tell on a mixtape how he responds to in game situations

I know people from that area, if you want to sound like a true local pronounce it "Wiffle".

Cool. Kinda like "Scutch" (McCutchenville, OH), and "Nerk"

I was having similar thoughts. The video doesn't really show much other than threes, dunks and few nice passes.

Whoh, someone else knows of McCutchenville's existence and even knows that it's referred to by those in this area as Scutch.

Ex Spouse's family from the area. Been a few years. There's a good BBQ/bar joint there if I remember right.

The BBQ/bar joint is probably the one in New Riegle which is close to Scutch. (BBQ ribs, chicken)

Yep, New Riegel Cafe, which is just about 6 miles down the road from McCutchenville. It's a unique flavor barbecue, and I'm not a fan, but I'm definitely in the minority in that opinion.

Yep - I forgot that joint was in New Riegel. I was not that impressed with the BBQ either, but it's a great farm town cafe/tavern.

So - Bettsville Blast? Coon Hunters Club (good poker game there)?
