Groce only had one year in which he didn't bring in a transfer, and that was in '09. In '08 he brought in Bassett.  In '10 he brought in Smith and Offutt.  In '11 he brought in Kadeem Green.

In '09 he brought in Alex Kellogg if I'm not mistaken, but Kellogg decided against playing before the season started.

Seems like a really good get for the Cats!  We will be losing Reggie and Ivo after this year and lost our freshman big man last year to transfer (and Ethan).  I know we have Smith and Green for 2 years , but this is a good start to replenishing the cupboard with big men.

Unless we get another post player in this class, our big man lineup next year is Smith, Green, Setty, and Campbell. I hope one of them can emerge as an offensive threat. Maybe Green could be, coming from the Big 12 to the MAC. I think Setty was able to show flashes at SIU as a freshman.

This recruit looks to be a really good one.  I'm surprised that Xavier or Butler didn't offer on him.  He could be a serious threat in the MAC.  I agree with others who have said that he fits the MAC mold very well.

Sweet signing.  Dig the size.  And, looks like he's got a soft touch and looked very natural/comfortable shooting it from range.  Good "early win" for Christian recruiting wise.  Love seeing us beat out offer from places like Kent and Southern Illinois and etc.

C'mon, Bobcat Nation!  Amazing there has been so little response to this so far...especially from the naysayers questioning the ability of this staff to get HS players.  I think this verbal is a solid starting point for recruiting HS players.

This is a great get in my opinion.  He brings a number of intangibles to the position that simply can't be taught (mobility, activity level, range, craftiness around the basket, etc).  Campbell's legs are like tree trunks.  Get this kid in a legit strength and conditioning program and he could blow up.

His game actually reminds me a bit of Antawn Jamison's with his range and his ability to hit an array of off balance / off rhythm  shots.  Really nice form from distance too.  He doesn't have jaw dropping athleticism, but I saw flashes in that video.  Again, that's something that a better strength and conditioning program can bring out.  I wish Antonio could have played with DJ for a couple years as his ability to pull his man out to the 3-point line will open up the lane.  Stevie Taylor will definitely benefit from Campbell's presence in a big way.

Looks like a solid get, but I don't think one player is enough to quell the naysaying yet. I want to see a full class of HS guys before I stop questioning his recruiting.

I think in this day of college athletics, especially at the mid-major level,  it's entirely unrealistic to expect classes full of HS guys every single year.  Look at Groce's teams.  Without Bassett and Offutt, we don't beat Georgetown or make a run to the Sweet 16.  Hell, we aren't in the tourney in 2010 without Bassett and likely not in the tourney in 2012 without Offutt.

Groce only had one year in which he didn't bring in a transfer, and that was in '09. In '08 he brought in Bassett.  In '10 he brought in Smith and Offutt.  In '11 he brought in Kadeem Green.

This year's recruiting is going to be a bit of an abnormality.  The guys that Groce had committed to Ohio were never going to stay once he went to Illinois as they had bigger offers on the table.  Normally, one of the biggest draws for a Mid-major program is that they can offer immediate playing time to players directly out of HS.  Obviously with what Ohio had returning, there would be only a select few that would have the chance to play immediately.  We needed to fill certain holes in the roster with players that were ready to play and contribute immediately.

There is certainly a need for transfer and JC guys. I realize Groce also utilized JC players. However, in looking at Christian's classes from 2008 to 2011, 13 guys were JUCO guys to 10 "others"...High school, POST, or Transfer.

That is what I DON'T want to see at OHIO. One a year...MAYBE two if you are in dire straights...ok. Over 50% JUCOs is not the key to program sustainability. I hope that my concerns are unfounded and JC proves me wrong.

I'm glad to see Antonio commit. He looks like a great prospect. But, like I said, one HS guy doesn't quell my fears.

If I were looking at what JC is going to do long term, I would look at his recruiting at Kent, not his years at TCU where he was starting over so to speak. Fact is, we lost some recruits at the last minute when JG left, JC is just filling in some holes IMO.  Wouldn't worry too much just yet. I think his recruits so far - whatever they are are pretty good.  Let's see what he does with them.

Watching the video it looks like he has tremendous hands.  He also gets his shot off very quickly.  Looked like he may rely a little too much on his size on defense but that can be taught.  Looks like a real good get.

Campbell should be solid at the PF, but I would still like to get a legit center prospect also.

I assume that Campbell takes the scholarship from Anthony Allen who was a juco previously recruited by Groce.

How does he look athletically? Are we going back to slower forwards or still going to want to get up and down?

Doesn't hurt to have a big manz in the paint. Having a body inside to play post defense and get the defensive boards always is needed. That size will play well in the MAC.

I thought Anthony Allen was still coming in 2013.  Anybody?

We have 4 scholarships falling off next year (Cooper, Baltic, Keely, Offutt...ouch).  Setty, Wilkins, & Willis will all be under scholarship this year (from the scholarships of Jacobs, Goard, and the one we got back)...So we have 4 to add for 2013 and to my knowledge, we have only added Campbell & Allen...leaving 2 remaining.

Maybe someone smarter than I can confirm or deny all that.

All of that sounds correct to me. I think the question with Allen is that he disappeared from basketball last year and I've never heard an explaination. He was removed from his JUCO team's roster and I don't know what became of him. This link about Campbell, which may not be especially accurate, lists him as a player committed to the Bobcats.

I believe the reason Allen wasn't listed on their roster this year was because he took a redshirt in order to have 3 years to play once he gets to Athens. He was in their team photo and in their media guide.

He'll see much better competition playing at Taft than at Holy Cross.

I like the idea of Campbell knowing we have another big coming in.  I think Campbell is more of a ready to go guy than Wadley.

He might not be the only 2013 recruit that might face some eligibility issues associated with a transfer.

The Enquirer website has hardly any box scores available for Holy Cross. The one game I found he scored 26 pts and had 9 rebounds against Colerain.

All I can gather from the Cincinnati Enquirer is that his team is 15-11.
