Before Chandler Thomas was even on campus Ted reported Saul said he may recruit over him the next year and had told Chandler as much. Essentially he had an extra scholarship this year that was going to go unused and gave the kid a shot. Obviously that has not panned out by any stretch of the imagination, although I'm sure he has contributed in practices which is worth something. I don't think there's any chance he's on scholarship next year.
Yep, and from what we heard Chandler was OK with that. Imagine that, a D-1 NCAA athlete who sees value in a year of paid tuition at grad school!

I think the way it was stated was that he would be a back-up to Ndour and someone could be recruited to start ahead of him after that. Never said he would be out of a scholarship at any point, though perhaps he was just trying to be politically correct about it.

If he's visiting little Detroit, he either a) likes the city better than a great college town, or b) thinks he'll just jump into the role vacated by Juice.

Toledo is a decent program with a good coach and not too far from where's he from. A visit makes complete sense to me.

It could be for the academics and better malls.

True but I got to think there is more to this than location. GOing up the I69 racetrack is a bear and dangerous. Once you get above US 30 the weather for a winter sport is really different....like entering another world. I'll take the extra 20 minutes on US 35 to get to usually more temperate athens.

Whitestown is on the other side of Indy for his P's if that is a consideration. They would add 30 mins to each trip to get across 465 to 69 or 70 for any program in the MAC not named NIU ....including Ball State.

You hardly ever miss Borna! Absolutely correct about the US 30 dividing line. This plays out on I-71 as well. Amazed by the depth of knowledge here.

I was thinking more I-70 than Route 30 as the weather dividing line. Many times driving back to Athens from NE Ohio I couldn't wait to hit Cambridge on I-77 so the weather would clear. Same thing happened to me a couple of weekends ago when I picked up a truck in Findlay. Drove back down to Cincinnati in white-out conditions until I hit Dayton.

aU contrare kemosabe.

Above 30 is another world. YOu are showing your Cincy background

A Roads guy (I'll talk to anyone) explained to me that sections of I 70 between Dayton and Springfield are used as road surfaces test areas because they have more freezes and thaws than anywhere else in the US.

You get above 30 and you are in winter.... At least in the lower part of OHIO you get more moderate weather. Compare Sandusky or BG to Athens and there will be a difference in snow, ice, temps across the board.

30 and 70 are both weather divides. I have driven across both countless times over the years - Indy and Ohio. Above 30 is typically worse though. The 70 divide was clear the last couple systems that went through.

Grandpa's Cheesebarn - just can't get myself to go in there. McKinney - sell me on it.

Skip Grandpa's Cheesebarn. This is a tourist trap. If you want to overpay by dollars per pound on cheese and meat that you can get at any local Amish/Mennonite store for half the price, then be my guest and go. We appreciate the tax revenue.

I totally agree. As someone born & raised near Lima, I used to refer to Athens as the "Tropics" of Southern Ohio to my folks because spring happened sometimes a full month sooner than it did back home. Of course this winter, in terms of recent snowfall, has done something to dispel that notion.

On the topic of the thread, I'd guess that Nick could start right away at UT next year. At Ohio, he'd be in a fight for his spot, assuming there was an open scholly, which at this point, I assume would be held for next year or a transfer anyway. I was just excited about the idea of getting another PG. Instead Saul chose another shooter in Gollon. I guess seeing the shooting of '14-'15 was a "enough is enough" moment for him.

Toledo already has one PG signed for next year, the Sanford kid who visited us.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Grandpa's Cheese Barn recently open a second location near Wadsworth? It sure makes it easier for Jeff's buddy Keith Dambrot to make a cheese run.

I totally agree here and with RSBobcat. I was born and raised up around Canton, which is right on 30. The weather up north is atrocious compared to SW Ohio. That lake affect weather is astonishing. So maybe there are two lines, 30 and 70. It just keeps getting better the further south you go. Either way, Toledo winter nights are awful compared to Athens I imagine.

By mocking their discussion by effectively saying they are stating obvious things. No, you did not explicitly say it and yes, I fully expected the exact response you gave.

If I can't make a joke off of, "It just keeps getting better the further south you go," I might as well blow up the site. It was in reply to something I said that touched off the discussion in the first place.

But please, continue to take things too seriously.

Skip the tourist trap and drive 15 minutes into the country to Planktown Market.
