Numbers don't lie, people with wild imaginations do. Jason Carter and Dartis could start on multiple teams of the players listed above. Block would be coming off the bench
This is wrong.

Carter and Dartis would start on every team in the MAC next year.

Laster and Block would start on most of the teams in the MAC next year. Outside of Buffalo, EMU, Ball State, and Akron they probably start for every other team. Kent State won the MAC tournament and they would both have been an upgrade at wing last year for Kent.

Also Doug Taylor would start next year for half or more of the league as well. Centers in the MAC are going to be very young and unpolished next year. Outside of James Thompson, Trey Moses, and Nick Perkins I am struggling to find any big men who would be an upgrade from Doug Taylor.

Outside of Buffalo we easily have the most talented roster in the MAC next year and that is with two scholarships yet to be filled.
Dartis would start on two to four other teams, he would not start over Thomas Wilder at WMU, Marcus Keene or Braylon Rayson at CMU, Johnathan Williams at Toledo, Deon Edwin at Kent, Jimond Ivey at Akron, Blake Hamilton or CJ Massinburg at Buffalo, Taylor Persons or Franko House at BSU, Jaelan Sanford at Toledo. Carter would have trouble starting at Akron, Kent, and Toledo only because of his defense. Next year, he should be number one or two as far as big men if his defense improves. Next year Dartis could be an All MAC two guard, he has to improve his midrange game, he shot 39% from 2 last year. Block, we have already been over his stats. He's all we got, so he is a mercedes to us, but to others he may be a Nissan Altima. Laster could start on multiple teams, he is very efficient, he is a good defender, he could start for us definitely.

So using your logic then all 5 of the Bobcat starters next year would start on most MAC teams, Simmons, Carter and Dartis would start on all teams and the other other 2 on most teams so I would assume we will be 18-0 unless our coach sucks.
I said they would start, not they would be the best player. Huge difference.

Either way, I'd like to know which players/teams you think I am wrong on and I would happily listen.

CMU - Braylon Rayson is a Senior, Dartis absolutely would start on CMU next year.

WMU - Wilder is the PG, Dartis would absolutely start over Bryce Moore at the other guard spot.

Toledo - Jonathan Williams is a Senior, Dartis would start on Toledo next year.

Kent - Deon Edwin is a Senior, Dartis would start on Kent next year. And Dartis is better than Jalen Avery so he likely would have started over him with Jaylin Walker playing PG.

Akron is the only one up for debate. He is as good or better than Antino Jackson and Akron could move Robotham to PG to let Dartis start.

Buffalo - Blake Hamilton and Willie Connor are Seniors, Dartis would start at Buffalo.

Ball State - Parsons is PG, Dartis would start at other guard.

Now for Carter.

Kent States only two returning big men are De La Rosa and Pippen. Carter would start over both.

Akron's retuning big men are all backups as well. I like Olojakpoke, but Hughes shot 38% from 2 this past year so he's definitely not starting over Carter.

You know, the team who scores the most points wins.

So, what Coach Phillips has to do is get players and a strategy that will result in Ohio scoring more than the other team.

Not sure why he isn't doing this. Seems obvious to me.

Dude needs to wake up.

I see several hundred other division I programs with the same problem. What's with these coaches? Eh?

I did my analysis based on last year. Buffalo has the best recruiting class in the conference. Wes Clark and Graves and a Juco all American they have coming in there would all compete for time with Dartis. We need to bring in two quality recruits to compete with them alone. Akron and Miami should decline, but you better believe that with the large number of grad transfers available, a couple of MAC schools will get some quality transfers and be competitive. A lot of others MAC schools don't have the start forever policy, so they will have upgraded rosters based on who they have recruited.

This^^^ is spot on...all of it. Buffalo by far has the best class coming in and it's not even close.

I am really excited to see what Saul will do with 2 extra scholarships. I feel like we can be very good this year with the team we have and allow the two scholarships to be used on transfers who have to sit out. If you don't count Kenny and Jaaron as transfers, his freshmen have been pretty great outside of Ellis so far.
Dartis: Starts year 1
Block: sixth man Frosh, starts year 2
Jason Carter: Starts year 1
Gollon: played some minutes freshman year
Doug: seventh man freshman, key player off bench soph.
Yes, thank you for reminding us who is on our team.

Not sure why you would base it on last year when the season is over.

But I disagree that Buffalo's recruiting class if far and away better than ours as you and FearLeon said.

Bottom line is Zach Butler committed to us before Graves was off the board.

Graves may have the higher Scout rating, but Graves has better offers and the interest he was drawing when we signed him is much better than Graves (Memphis, Wichita State, Northwestern, Clemson, Florida, VCU, and Final Four bound South Carolina). We got a steal. And oh yeah he's a 6'5 PG.

Buffalo's only other HS player James Reese looks like a nice player, but his only other offers are Winthrop, James Madison, North Carolina A&T and South Carolina State. Not very exciting. Lets compare him to Bennett Vander Plas - he has twice as many offers including one from Josh Pastner when he was still at Memphis. He also took official visits to Creighton and Nebraska. Have you seen his highlight videos? He is an incredible athlete. In my opinion he will be even more of a matchup nightmare for MAC players that Jason Carter already is.

Then there's Jeremy Harris, Buffalo's JUCO recruit. He looks like a very nice player and has an offer from Texas Tech. He will possibly be an impact player the next two years at Buffalo, but we have AJ Gareri for four years. Gareri is a 3-star recruit by ESPN and the 6th best player in the state (Higher than Jayvon Graves). I'll take him for four over Harris for two any day.

Finally there is Wes Clark, the grad transfer from Missouri. He averaged 9 ppg last year for them. First off, this isn't your dad's Missouri Tigers. They were ranked 160th by Kenpom his final year. That's about 20 spots lower than where Ohio and Buffalo were ranked. He shot 37% from the field last year. For comparison, Bean Willis never shot below 39% at Texas Tech. Coming down to the MAC he will probably put up better stats, but he's not going to become a completely different player overnight.

We still have two scholarships left, Buffalo is out. Lets wait and see what we do with those final two scholarships. I would bet that at least one of them will be a better player than Wes Clark.

Garreri was not the sixth best player in the state. He and Butler had leg injuries. Butler was ranked 1218th in the nation in one ranking and averaged 8 points per game his junior year, he had early offers which went away after his injury, we took the easy win there and created a moral. I hope he will be great, he will probably be told that he was recruited to only play defense. As far as the last two schollies, we need to pray that the NCAA gives us Tone back, because our starters are set so will not shoot for the moon. What should happen is that we should recruit a wing that can challenge Block for the starting job and a big man that can challenge Taylor, a big man that can block shots.

I agree wing should be our top target, but I am not sure why you think all starters are set in stone.

Mike Laster went from starter to back up. Also, Saul gave Jason Carter the starting role over Doug even though Doug was a Sophomore and Carter a Freshman.

I think Saul has shown that he will play the best players regardless of class.
