Already rated 3 stars by scout. He is still unranked by other services, but you can tell the buzz is starting to grow. 247 lists interest by half a dozen P6 schools including Georgetown, North Carolina, Maryland, and West Virginia.

Have not heard anything about this kid, but then I'm not tied into the prep hoops world here. Do have good friends that live across the street from the columnist that covers HS sports in Charlotte and wrote the article that is linked above. I'll see if I can tap into him over the next year re: Justyn.

I know this is going to be a long shot, but I like this kid a lot. We're light on guards, but a big who can shoot, run the floor and swat shots with that wingspan is hard to come by.

I'd think it's a huge long shot, but let's hope this one, or one of the other two bigs offered in Manley or Gareri, ends up in Athens. If I'm a kid from the Carolina's and I'm offered by C of C, that's a tough to turn down place to go to school.

It is not a long shot, we are an up and coming team that has played in the tournament many times, playing time at his position is available. This is an ideal choice for him. We have over 30 athletes who have went overseas and made 6 figures, we should not be scared, we have a good chance with anyone that visits. Go Cats

Great city, fantastic restaurants...but C of C is the least of our concerns with this kid. Issue will be if/as his offers expand. AAU this summer will be the litmus.

I agree with you both. C of C isn't a worry from a basketball standpoint. But Charleston is leaps and bounds cooler than Athens for a 18-22 year old, and I think Athens is just about the best town in Ohio.

The real concern is definitely high major offers, and VCU from the current list.

What makes Charleston so cool for 18-22 year-olds?

The beach and the climate. And more metro area advantages.

But like Coach Phillips says, we gotta recruit guys who want to be here. Athens is good enough to attract enough athletes.

Well, IMHO beaches and "better" (warmer?) climates are overrated. I'll admit I was only in Charleston once, and maybe I missed how "cool" it was, but as a college town with the college experience I think Athens ranks pretty high. As do other places not in the south and not near a beach. Just sayin'

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking Jeff re: Charleston. Just my opinion.

Have you seen what girls who are 18-22 years old wear when it's 80 degrees? Yeah, I would hate living there and playing basketball.

The truth is HS and college age kids in the Carolinas do not flock to Charleston - primarily because of the cost - expensive town to eat or stay in, and the beaches are primarily private homes. There is one, small 4 story hotel on the immediate beaches - everything else - rentals. The city is much more popular with the mid/late 20-somthings who are starting to make some decent coin.

Now if there was a University of Myrtle Beach...

Well, Ohio USED to have this when it was on the quarter system!! Nothing better than Athens from early May on. Thankfully I graduated when I did.

Edit: Charleston is the bomb! Love that place! Go there and you'll see why it's so great.

I mean if we're gonna go that route, FGCU might be the answer.

Yea it is - about 15 miles inland from Myrtle - but not nearly as good a school as CofC, and has limited basketball history (not that CofC is all that).

Grover, I'm not a beach person myself...but in getting inside the heads of 20 year olds, many of them are.

I'd take Athens over the beach any day.

When it comes to recruiting, I'm not too concerned about other schools "out-colleging" us.

It was 75 and sunny in Athens yesterday and the college kids seemed to be enjoying themselves pretty well. Get the majority of 18 year-olds on campus, and I think they will be mighty intrigued...
