Scekic is visiting St. Johns this weekend and Ohio next weekend.

https://twitter.com/zsmart3/status/851546375187779584

He is originally from Serbia and played his Freshman year at New Mexico before heading to a JuCo this past year. He would have two years of eligibility and be able to play right away.

He also has interest from TCU and USF.

Started 37/37 games for the NJCAA champions, BUT he only averaged 10 minutes a game. He shot decently from the floor (48%), but Hutch scored a 90+ a game and Nikola averaged only about 4 ppg. It makes you wonder what he will be asked to do wherever he goes, because I don't think it will be scoring. I dunno, I guess it's nice to have a seven footer who can walk and chew gum just to be a big body.

Sounds like a jump ball guy and then used situationally. Obviously since I've never seen him play I can't make an assessment of his strengths and weaknesses but not sure I'm all that impressed by a guy that is only getting 10 minutes at the JUCO level.

Had Georgetown offer when he chose New Mexico. Transferred from New Mexico due to lack of playing time, but doesn't sound like he got much more where he went.

Watching the HS tape, seems fairly athletic for his size, but didn't have a ton of touch around hoop which seems to often be the case with young 7-footers. At the very least, this would give us options in our rotations and style of play as he is much taller and has a different style than our other bigs. Could really create matchup problems for other teams while giving us needed depth in the post.

The fans want a seven footer and that is what we will get, just kidding. I like the fact that his team won a championship, I like his height, but at the D1 level, athletes can go around you if you are slow and over you if you are soft. We need difference makers not guys that can play 5 minutes a game. I would be trying to recruit player that is better than any big that he have skill wise to foster a competition that makes the recruit and the incumbent stronger, and most of all this would give us a guy that we know that can count on, market forces and contingency planning, not just a 7 footer that can play situational defense.

Keep in mind Ohio apparently hasn't offered him yet. And that he has interest from St John's, USF and TCU. Jamie Dixon ain't no fool.

And Hutchinson s the very elite level of juco. And they play a race horse style that might not fit with this big getting lots of minutes.

Recruiting is a lot like brainstorming in a staff meeting, especially in the Spring. You put out multiple options, check them out, and hope to cull yor signings from your ideas. Expression of interest in a player is just that.

Hutchinsoinson has had 7 division one players on teams before, I don't know about this year, bt at 7'1", it concerns me that you only warrented 10 minutes a game. Hutchinson has talent but can't beat a MAC team. We are replacing Tone, we should be trying to get someon with his skill level. Saint johns took our former commit and he is there project, remember Mr. Owens. I think he scored 9 points in the crab bowl and his father thought that he was a one and done. he is blocking a coupl of shots, I could see them offering.

Good call. All valid points. But still he reads like a project and we'd only get him for two years.

Maybe if we played a zone defense and he was able to protect the rim, but doubt he fits into Saul Ball man to man defense.

We are no longer in the mix for Scekic.

He must have read our board and saw that he wasn't a good fit.
