This kid looks like he's not done growing. Gotta feeling he's gonna blow up soon. He's got length.

I like this kid. He would be coming in as Laster, Simmons and Harley leave, leaving us with a wing issue. He seems athletic, can jump, handle the ball and really isn't afraid of mid-range or going inside. I think he'd be tough with Jordy, Butler, Culver and Gollon at the guard spots. When that group of 3 leaves I'd love to see an athletic wing, a true post and a long and athletic 4 man to go with all of our stretch 4's and shooters.

Something else noted on Verbal Commits - they have him listed as a PG at 6'3". I'm guessing he's already grown a bunch since he hit their site.

Not sure how we missed this, but Kent offered mid-September. Also verbal commits states he's now at "SPIRE Institute" for high school. Anyone knowledgeable on that?

I've been wondering about this guy and the fact that he's not committed yet. Maybe he's waiting on that bigger offer?

Spire is a multisport complex in the eastern exurbs of Cleveland. They've hosted some MAC championship tournaments, like volleyball. They run some sport/academic programs, and I guess this kid is in one for hoops.

Final Bump.

Any updates on McConnell?

Same as I said in the other threads - As far as I can tell he's still undecided so will be a late-signing period decision (April 11-May 16).

As far as I can tell we're still on his radar or no?

I know we've already signed 3 and sit at a full 13 scholarships, but in the event we lose someone to transfer?

I would say Ohio is not in the running. Just received a UMass offer. St Bonaventure and St. Joe's offered in late 2017. Ohio offered in July of 2016.

Dunbar has been removed from the OHSAA Tournament
After the AD,coaches and administrators spent a couple of days dodging the OHSAA calls they got dumped out of the tourney. Did not take very long for those same officials from the school to pick up the phone and find a lawyer to file the injunction to demand they get to play

Dunbar athletics has been a mess. They have not served suspensions and seem to not want to from their actions. THey do not seem to have a place to communicate as they have ignored phone calls and multiple emails from OHSAA

Mark Baker has been the Dayton Public Schools Athletic Director for almost two years and I have no idea (nor does anyone else) how he keeps his job. In football, he ordered one of the DPS schools, Dunbar, to lose to another, Belmont. That resulted in an OHSAA fine and probation. Now, DPS administrators don't answer at least 7 emails and phone calls on the basketball matter.

State implicates Dayton AD Baker in Dunbar football fiasco

Paul Lawrence Dunbar is rolling in his grave (which is next to that of the Wright Brothers) over this. The Wright Brothers might be rolling over in sympathy for the way the name of their dear friend is being besmirched by the clowns that now run the school named after the famed Ohio author and poet.
For your reading pleasure, here is one of Dunbar's more famous poems, written to eulogize his father, who fought in the Union Army and help put down the Rebellion:

The Colored Soldiers

If the muse were mine to tempt it
And my feeble voice were strong,
If my tongue were trained to measures,
I would sing a stirring song.
I would sing a song heroic
Of those noble sons of Ham,
Of the gallant colored soldiers
Who fought for Uncle Sam!

In the early days you scorned them,
And with many a flip and flout
Said “These battles are the white man’s,
And the whites will fight them out.”
Up the hills you fought and faltered,
In the vales you strove and bled,
While your ears still heard the thunder
Of the foes’ advancing tread.

Then distress fell on the nation,
And the flag was drooping low;
Should the dust pollute your banner?
No! the nation shouted, No!
So when War, in savage triumph,
Spread abroad his funeral pall–
Then you called the colored soldiers,
And they answered to your call.

And like hounds unleashed and eager
For the life blood of the prey,
Sprung they forth and bore them bravely
In the thickest of the fray.
And where’er the fight was hottest,
Where the bullets fastest fell,
There they pressed unblanched and fearless
At the very mouth of hell.

Ah, they rallied to the standard
To uphold it by their might;
None were stronger in the labors,
None were braver in the fight.
From the blazing breach of Wagner
To the plains of Olustee,
They were foremost in the fight
Of the battles of the free.

And at Pillow! God have mercy
On the deeds committed there,
And the souls of those poor victims
Sent to Thee without a prayer.
Let the fulness of Thy pity
O’er the hot wrought spirits sway
Of the gallant colored soldiers
Who fell fighting on that day!

Yes, the Blacks enjoy their freedom,
And they won it dearly, too;
For the life blood of their thousands
Did the southern fields bedew.
In the darkness of their bondage,
In the depths of slavery’s night,
Their muskets flashed the dawning,
And they fought their way to light.

They were comrades then and brothers,
Are they more or less to-day?
They were good to stop a bullet
And to front the fearful fray.
They were citizens and soldiers,
When rebellion raised its head;
And the traits that made them worthy,–
Ah! those virtues are not dead.

They have shared your nightly vigils,
They have shared your daily toil;
And their blood with yours commingling
Has enriched the Southern soil.

They have slept and marched and suffered
‘Neath the same dark skies as you,
They have met as fierce a foeman,
And have been as brave and true.

And their deeds shall find a record
In the registry of Fame;
For their blood has cleansed completely
Every blot of Slavery’s shame.
So all honor and all glory
To those noble sons of Ham–
The gallant colored soldiers
Who fought for Uncle Sam!

Baker was more than available to sit down with Marshall administration to suspend kids for two games over that fight. Evidently he had no idea how to find anyone at Dunbar.

Not only did he order Dunbar last year to throw a game (to avoid forfeiture from playing an ineligible player), but to also get another DPS team into the playoffs. This is also not the first time he’s been involved in covering up a brawl of one of his schools.
