keep tilting at windmills, Don Quixote...
Keep being a negative nancy. The 100% way to make sure Jr. doesn't play for us is to make sure we don't offer. What's wrong with offering the son of the best to ever lace them up for the green and white? If that's crazy I'd like my straight jacket in an XL.
Why do people buy lottery tickets? A chance to hit a jackpot.
Woah, there, big fella! The only one being negative here is YOU! YOU are being negative toward our coaching staff! Obviously, you must feel Saul is a TERRIBLE recruiter for not offering GT2 a scholly. Obviously you must feel he's incompetent. Shame on you!
I happen to think otherwise. My guess is Saul has OF COURSE been in contact with GT and GT2 and has based his actions on his conversations with both.
I have faith in our coaching staff, and a belief that they know EXACTLY what they are doing in terms of recruiting. They don't need my advice. And based on your suggestion that they recruit "buddies" of GT2's THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN PLAY, they'd be wise to avoid yours. But if you're so certain I'm wrong, go ahead, send your advice to Saul. I'm sure he'd be grateful...
Oh and by the way, I bet you're just counting the hours until Joey Burrow announces he's leaving OSU for home and will transfer to Ohio...
Great use of capital letters Bruce! You do realize this is a message board. Where fans (fanatics) share their opinions. You know what they say about opinions, and you my friend have a rather large one. Have you ever disagreed with any of our coaches about anything? You never have second guessed Beau up the middle or the basketball substitution patterns? You do assume a lot about me. You know what happens when you assume.
Just to let you know, I never posted anything about Joey Burrow basically because I don't care. Ohio offered, he didn't accept the offer end of story. Gary Trent Jr. is a different story, Ohio hasn't offered and Junior hasn't accepted any other offer so recruiting on him is still wide open. Mr. Burrow also isn't the son of the only 3 time MAC POY. So I accept your bet and you can donate in my name one football season ticket to the Boys and Girls club of Athens.
I don't know why you brought Coach Phillips into the conversation but since you did, I'll go ahead and address it. Coach Phillips is on record for taking a kid no one else wanted and turned him into the Summit player of the year. He's into developing talent perhaps one of Junior's high school or AAU teammates is that type of player. I expect the men's basketball coach to do his due diligence when recruiting a project. I know he has the best interests of the program at heart. In my heart as a fan (fanatic) I think it is a great idea to offer a scholarship to Gary Trent Jr. It is not beneath this program to take a chance on a potential diamond in the rough on potentially one of Junior's teammates. If that prospect also helps us land a top 20 recruit even better. Coach Phillips has brought in a lower level talent already into the program so it is not beneath him either.
Again I don't understand why you insist on myself or the Optimist to contact Coach Phillips via email. I have his cell number maybe we can have a conference call. I think Coach Phillips has way more on his plate to settle a silly message board argument. I'm sure with all of his off season dealings he'd love to hear from us.
As for Gary Trent Senior, I have had recently a long email thread about all sorts of topics. I had more than one opportunity to ask him if his son would consider Ohio. I didn't because it wasn't my place and my opinions belong on a message board. Just like your opinions belong here on bobcatattack. So shame on you for wanting me to waste Coach Phillips time when there are so many better things for him to be doing.
Aloha,
Chasing Windmills
well now, sounds like someone in Hawaii needs to get out and enjoy the sun a bit more instead of getting so riled up about someone using CAPS on a message board. TOO FUNNY. Didn't know you were the message board enforcement officer...show me your badge there, Cap'n! Kudos for attempting to change the subject.
I'm so very, VERY impressed that you have coach's cell phone number and exchange emails with GT. By all means, stick to name dropping. You are far better at it than offering solid advice/opinion/whatever on hoops recruiting.
We do agree on one thing: You are absolutely correct that it would be a waste of Coach's time for you to share with him your nonsense about recruiting Trent's "buddies." Nonsense that, based on what I read in your post, you are not attempting to defend. Smart.
Finally, no, I don't know what they say about opinions. Why don't you enlighten me? But believe you this: Whatever "large one" that I may posses or be, it takes one to know one, smart guy, it takes one to know one.
I did address the "buddy" situation but this time I used the word teammate so people realize I wasn't talking about his chemistry lab partner. I was talking about an individual with division 1 ability that might be closer to SWAC level instead of MAC level. Anyways moving on.
You are very good at changing the subject as well. All you have done is flame me on all sorts of subjects and your only point is that we should trust Coach Phillips in all things recruiting. We differ opinions which is great and that's the intent. The mud slinging is childish especially when it adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. (Your Don Quixote comment). You never addressed the other selling points I made on an idea to offer. The only one that you chose was the idea that was a bit out of the box. I don't know if junior was with his dad on Gary Trent Day. Maybe he loved the Convo and the campus we don't know. He won't call us we have to call him is really the root of everything I have suggested.
I appreciate that you completely omitted a rebuttal on the Mr. Burrow. I'm not counting down anything. Again I accepted your bet and you can donate a football season ticket.
The whole point to my name dropping is that I'm fortunate enough to have access to some key players on this topic. I chose to voice my opinion here because I am smart enough not to bother those individuals. Yet you thought you were a big shot suggesting I do just that
This is a thread about recruiting Gary Trent Jr. I'm not in the minority on wanting Ohio to offer this young man. I'm finished with you because I get your point don't question anything about coach's recruiting methods. I get it. We can agree to disagree on that.
As for my opinion comment, if you can't figure it out, I'm sorry we share degrees from the same fine university.
Comparing one to Don Quixote is mudslinging? The Don Quixote of Man of LaMancha? The Don Quixote who sang "The Impossible Dream"? My goodness you are touchy (not to mention a vicious slinger of mud in your own right, and OH SO CLEVER, but I digress)! The song speaks to sticking to one's ideals and dreams even if the cause may turn out to be hopeless.
"Impossible Dream"
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
And to run where
the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
And to love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march,
march into hell
For that heavenly cause
And I know
If I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart
Will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be
better for this
That one man, scorned
and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last
ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable,
the unreachable,
The unreachable star
And I'll always dream
The impossible dream
Yes, and I'll reach
The unreachable star
Now, how could you take that as mudslinging? Nothing wrong with that, in terms of recruiting GT2 or most else in life. Nope, the only thing wrong with being compared to the Don Quixote of Man of LaMancha is your hysterical over reaction throughout this entire thread.
