Certainly fits the bill for help right away on the wing.

Watching that video: really likes to pull up after one or two left hand dribbles. In fact, even the few times he does go right, he pulls it back over to the left once more before shooting. Not necessarily a bad thing if a guy who's a righty likes to go left, but a good scout for the opposing team will pick up on that.

So, does he qualify as the "instant impact player" many are calling for in the threads about Dozier and Butler transferring?

I started thinking about one of the most underrated Bobcats I've seen, Mychal Green.

Hey Mr. Cowart, OHIO and Athens are great places to spend a few years. Come on aboard....

Man, he looked like Kyrie Irving. I love this kid. He fits right in Laster's spot. Sign him up.

"There’s a common theme with the athletic edge the guards have on this year’s Dandy Dozen. Cowart is relentless, turning steals into baskets and hitting jump shot after jump shot while managing to beat pressure and lead his team in scoring as a junior. Cowart led McComb to back-to-back state championships over the past two seasons and averaged 13 points and 14 rebounds. He’s the total package as a guard: He can handle the basketball, score often and get to the rim."

Well, he fits bornacat's "winning championships" criteria. Plus he did well academically in both high school and junior college. What's not to like?

Hope he strongly considers Ohio.

I would think this kid can give us considerable minutes with the loss of Laster. I truly think that we can afford to give a scholly to a Carson Williams or a freshman who has to develop because we have Doug, Carter, Block, BVP, Gareri, McMurray and Springs as 4-5 guys. We only have Kirk, Gollon, Murrell and Dartis at guard right now. With Cowart I could see a starting lineup of Dartis, Kirk, Carter, Block and Gollon and a bench of Doug, BVP, Cowart, McMurray and Murrell. Gareri, the freshman and Springs get time to develop more.

Things are looking much, much brighter with this signing, being that Antonio hopefully can back up the point and play on the wing. Add him to Ben VanderPlas and Mason McMurray, with Jason Carter returning and we should have a very competitive team. Don't know what to expect from Connor Murrell or Nate Springs next season; hope they'll be ready to help out. If he decides to use the last scholarship, I would like coach Phillips to get another big. You can never have enough of them!

Thinking like a reporter (old habits die hard!): With only two seasons left to play, I'm elated that Cowart signed, but I'm wondering why he didn't go somewhere he could possibly start. Or could Jordan Dartis possibly be a medical redshirt next season?

Who said he won’t start along with Dartis?

Just start your five best players. If Kirk, Cowart, and Dartis are 3 of our 5 best players then start all three of them. It shouldn't be an issue.

This kid could start in this lineup: Dartis, Kirk, Cowart, Carter, Doug. We don't send a ton of guys to the boards anyways so why not a 3-guard starting lineup? Then you can have a killer bench with proven guys Gollon and Block. Toss in guys with upside in BVP, McMurray, Gareri and Murrell and who knows with the new guy and Springs and this lineup will be solid. So pumped for this guy. We made it the past 2 years with Culver and Butler and this guy is like the best of both worlds with experience!

Wow, I am so excited about this recruit. Way to go Saul. Go Bobcats. The tape is great, the only concern is his field goal percentage.

The FG% numbers are offset by his rebounding and assist numbers, plus his defensive ability .

I hear ya, bigtillyoopsupsideurhead! And it can work, especially against teams that regularly play three guards, such as Buffalo. I wouldn't want to have to be the one who guards the "3" against teams that start a small forward, but what you lose in height on defense, you may gain in quickness at the other end. At least I hope so. So we'll see how this shakes out. And I assume you weren't speaking literally about starting your five best players, but in principle. I've seen situations where a team's best six players were all guards and wings. But they had to wedge a post player in the starting lineup anyway.

Need a guy who could score and Antonio certainly looks the part. Class breakdown has a good mix of guys who have been in the system for a while and some fresh-still young faces.

Seniors: Taylor, Block, Dartis
Juniors: Gollon, Cowart
Sophomores: Carter (RS), Kirk, Murrell (RS), Gareri?
Freshmen: Vander Plas (RS), Springs, McMurray, Gareri (RS)?

I don't know if this has been discussed but was Gareri eligible for the redshirt? I feel like he made too many appearances and just missed the cut.

With still one scholarship open, it's going to be interesting to see how it's used. Maybe a big, I guess? Or just keep plugging in these hybrid 2-3-4 guys and see which one steps up the most.
