With Jordan Dartis signed for the Bobcat basketball program, maybe Ohio can now take a look at 6-7 BJ Duling, who started this past season as a sophomore at New Albany and has since moved into Newark.

Had a chance to speak with Jordan and BJ this afternoon as my son is attending this week's Wildcat boys basketball camp at Newark HS. BJ told me that Kent and Toledo have both offered and is waiting for bigger programs to offer. Similar to what Jordan told me 2-3 years ago and we all know how that turned out. Looks to have a long wing span and mentions he might end up as a shooting guard in college.

When I saw Newark, I first thought of Newark, NJ, and started to get excited. I grew up 10 miles from there. It's always been a hotbed for athletic mentally-tough ballers. I did this once before: When Geno Ford committed, I thought he was from Cambridge, MA, the home of Patrick Ewing and Rumeal Robinson.

Silly me...

Jeff Quackenbush does a fantastic job of getting the most out of players at Newark and that might have been a problem with Duling. He played right up to his potential and really didn't get better at Kent, for whatever reason. Looking back, probably did not deserve 3 star rating. Huge red flag: shot .410 from free throw line last year at Kent.

I wish he had a son we could recruit. I'd love to have a Quackenbush on our team, particularly if he was a pre-med major! ;-)

A 5th grader. 50-50 chance he'll be in my math class next year. Daughter one year behind.
