Based on Twitter I think Tariq was at the game today.

He was there. My first "live" impression - SKINNY! As in REAL THIN! Maybe he ends up like a Jon Smith with 3 more inches - Super Sized Pogo Stick?

Does a game like today--live or TV--have impact on recruits?

Hopefully he plays with the same heart that Jon Smith does

The picture linked in that tweet shows him in a Warriors jersey. Assuming that is Mt Zion Prep, but I haven't been able to find him in any boxscores for them. It'd be really cool if he has grown to 6-10!

According to a tweet I just saw from a quick search-- it was first reported on Jan. 29 ('14) that he transferred from TAAG Academy (Fla) to Mt. Zion Prep.

I have no clue what that process entails or how long it takes for the paperwork to be finalized, but that might explain a lack of finding any box scores from Mt. Zion.

Massanutten features two Division I signees in forward D.J. Foreman (Rutgers) and combo guard Isaac Fleming (Hawaii), with several other players getting serious looks. Fishburne brings 6-foot-10 big man Jabari Craig, a Southern Cal recruit, and guard Tre' Harris (Kansas State). Mt. Zion brings its own impressive big man in 6-9 forward Tariq Owens (Ohio U.).

If anyone in Virginia is looking for something to do this weekend, Tariq Owens is playing in a tournament in Woodstock today and tomorrow.  Looks like a pretty good field.

Isn't everyone in Virginia looking for something to do?

I think the same could be said for the majority of Ohio.

Clark Francis' Hoop Scoop most recent ratings rank Tariq #135 in the nation for the Class of 2014. The top 150 ranking means he's among the elite recruits in the nation.

These days it's rare for a school from a midmajor conference to sign one of the top 150. Loyola Marymount has a signee with about the same rating as Tariq. Gonzaga has a couple in the top 150. George Mason has a couple, but since they are in the Atlantic 10 they would no longer be considered a midmajor.

Jeff, couldn't we argue that the A-10's rating is probably not as good as it used to be given the departure of Xavier, Butler and Temple? George Mason is not on par with those teams, or even VCU or Saint Louis IMO.

Rivals now lists Tariq at 6-8, 205.

This kid is a hard worker. Not sure exactly what his height and weight are (always seems to be a guessing game with recruits) but I do think it is clear from the pictures he is bulking up.

I'm very excited with Tariq's enthusiasm with this years team. Tweets enthusiastic things during every game and follows the team closely. Certainly has bought into being a bobcat and makes it seem like he's going to work hard in the off season

I'm excited to see him play in the front court with Ndour and Tony Campbell.

Man, just have Ndour teach this kid everything he knows and He could be a monster in the MAC. By the time he's a junior and Tony Campbell is a senior the rest of the MC is going to be shaking in fear when they have to play that front court

I doubt they will shake with fear. They are bringing in good players too.

I would think that Mo, Tony and Tariq, coupled with some more minutes from Wadley and an improved Setty will make our bigs better than any team in the league with Tree, McCrea, Whittington, Felder, Cam Black and Pearson gone. Who can stop us?

I think Treadwell will be back but I still like think our frontcourt is going to be very difficult for the MAC to guard.

Outside of Akron with Forsythe, Treadwell and Johnson I don't think anyone has the quality and depth of bigs that we will have. I think even Akron will struggle with the length and athleticism Tariq and Ndour bring.

I cannot stop thinking about the offensive matchup problems we could create if we ran the Cuse/EMU 2-3 zone with Campbell at the 5 and Tariq and Ndour on the wings. So much length!

even scarier zone: Tariq, Antonio and Setty underneath in a 2-3 with Mo and Nehemias or Wiggington (6-6 each) up top! I know it won't come to that but man. Or D.J. up front at 6-5. I finally think we have an athletic, lanky, lean, jump out of the gym type of team that we've been missing in the past few years.
