interesting that Tariq lost his 4 star rating by Scout. One would think that when the high major sharks start swarming around a recruit their perceived value would go up, not down.

This whole Owens saga reminds me a lot of that Eastern European kid Groce recruited that ended up choosing Arizona. The one who was a higher caliber recruit than we usually got, and had close to signing before he got swept up by bigger programs. My guess is the end result is similar here. Owens goes on to an unremarkable career in the SEC or AAC, and we only ever really hear his name again when we go looking for it.

Except Ohio never actually signed Kyryl and he was a long shot at best. Owens was in the bag and signed on the dotted line. Two totally different situations.

Especially since I saw somewhere that he was being incorrectly listed at 6'9'' and is actually 6'10 1/2'' now. Of course the report I saw cited his dad and AAU coach with correcting the information.

I doubt the trip to UD ever gets scheduled. I'm guessing he doesn't leave Knoxville without committing to the Vols.

Coach Stewart is now an asst coach at UT-Martin.  Tariq had developed connections with Coach Stewart when he was on Coach Christian's staff at Ohio.

Do you guys have any preference which of the three schools he ends up at?

Temple is a good bball school, but I 'd hate to see him to go there for obvious reasons.

Tennessee would  be an upgrade basketball wise and I could at least understand the reasoning why he might go there instead of coming to Ohio.

UT-Martin?  Would be an odd choice and not sure we'd ever hear from him again there. That must be a heck of a relationship he has with that assistant coach.  Following the head coach I can understand, but do recruits actually put that much stock into the assistant coaches??  Assistants are promoted or change jobs a lot,  I mean what if coach Stewart goes somewhere else in two years, do you transfer again?  So again this is a very unusual choice to me.

It's just my gut feeling, but I have the hunch that we won't hear much from him period unless it's in the transfer wires over the next few years.

I would totally agree with this. We really won't hear from him but fully expect rumblings from pops and the agent....oops ....AAU coach.

I am sure that he will be great someday.  Just might be in a YMCA with Will Thomas throwing him oops.  Seriously though, if he was as good as advertised, he would have been a god here.  Do you think if Gary Trent shows up in a bar in Athens on Homecoming he has to buy a drink?  What about DJ Cooper?  Tariq can be a first round selection at Tennessee or Temple and show up on campus three years later and be anonymous.  I just don't get it.  But then, I have never been highly recruited, so my frame of reference is limited.

Wow...."Nice"  list.

UT-Martin....really? I get he knows the coach. But they suck and suck bad. This has to be a courtesy visit.
High school gym and 1,500 a game. Why would you do that to yourself in his position.

Temple ....also bad, really bad but it is the Big East. With the departure of Lee it probably sets up well for him.

Tenn?  I don't know much about Tenn situation but unless they just graduated 8 seniors and had bad recruiting classes it does't seem to fit in the group. He obviously wants a clear path to playing time so Tenn doesn't make sense to me.

My money is on Temple.

Tennessee has been in the recruiting news a lot lately.  Here's one link:

http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/13/for.../

If you read at the bottom, they have already signed three front court players under the new coach.  One of them being this guy, likely eligible to play immediately:

Not sure I see immediate PT in TO's future if he chooses Knoxville.

Reports are Tariq and his Dad "loved" Knoxville. The plan to visit Dayton was scrapped immediately after the Tenn visit and Tariq went from being completely silent on twitter to posting a bunch of slang filled non sequiturs like a typical teenager. You don't blow off a chance to visit a Sweet 16 team unless you're locked in.

I'm guessing he verbally committed to Tenn during the visit with the condition that it wouldn't be announced until after his visit w/Coach Stewart today as a courtesy. I give Temple about as much chance as UT Martin, or less.

Tariq would have had a better opportunity to play and develop his talents at Ohio and in the MAC but that ship has long sailed. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.
