Before going to prep school at Winchendon, Towns played in Ohio at Springfield HS and Pickerington Central HS.

I love this guy. He is versatile and athletic. He reminds me of Kevin Durant because he is long, skinny, and a good shooter. It seems to be a pattern that most recruits are skilled shooters. He will need to put on some weight but I read where he was 6’1” two summers ago and had a big growth spurt during his senior season before going to prep school. He didn’t play much in high school but has taken off this year.

You know who else had a big late growth spurt in their scenario? A certain Toppin kid at UD. ;-)

I'd love to see a player at the 3 or 4 with length, athleticism and versatility paired with the current group we have.

I wanted a JUCO or grad transfer first but this kid is in prep school and is leading that prep school. I would not mind adding him to the team and with two schollies left I think he's the perfect fit with what we need. He could play the 3 or 4.

I've been saying "transfers" with the last two scholarships just to see an age balance in the classes, because the best teams in the MAC generally seem to be the oldest ones. Otherwise we run into a scenario where we have 4 sophomores and 4 freshmen next year out of 13 scholarships.

Coach said in postgame that "a recruit" was in town this week and commented on the high energy and attitude in practice despite the losing streak. Had to be Towns.

Looking around twitter I think AJ Clayton (2022 Wing) might have been in town.

Soooooooo...

...speculation on my part but if Towns commits, we're pretty set on the 3-4 spots for a while.

BVP
Murrell
McMurray
Granger
Towns

And depending on the lineups you probably throw Foster and Springs into that as well, because I'm not sure either of them are a true 5.

Now I'm wondering where the need really is. We'll still be pretty young next year so a JUCO at any position other than PG might not be a bad thing. In any event, you can never have too many athletic guys 6'5" and above.

I'll betcha that, assuming the Towns speculation is true, that we'll soon see another scholarship opening up.

Also, just my opinion, that I know I keep banging the drum on, but the need to get older and more physically mature is still there for this team.

I don't like predicting transfers until they happen, but unfortunately the landscape has changed to be that way.

I guess one thing we have going for us is a lot of these guys have already used their Redshirts, so transferring wouldn't be advantageous for them.

On the flipside though, those players who have already redshirted may grad transfer out. In some cases, that can free up a scholarship from someone who has not been a big contributor (Ellis Dozier, for example), but someone important could also go. Without major attrition, this roster is shaping up for a huge year in 2022. We could even be a contender next season, but someone like BVP leaving would be a hit to those chances.

It is up to Boals to keep OUr guys loving his program. I think BVP would only leave if Gard calls him directly!! Even then he'd need Bo to call him! He likes OU and I could see he and Preston looking at 2 really good years together.

And I really am not worried about transfers this year. We already had Price but Springs and McMurray seem like great teammates. I love their energy. The rest are all key parts of this program and next year we should return BVP, Preston, McDay, Foster, Brown, Roderick and Murrell. Not a bad core. An athlete like Sam Towns thrown in with what looks like a big guard in White and a BVP type guy in Granger is exciting.

He still growing? Never know when those late bloomers/growth spurt guys stop. If we do redshirt him, that'd be on top of the prep school year. In an ideal world we'd always give guys extra time to develop their skills.

Would like to see JUCO scoring guard with last offer. Need a shooter/scorer for next season.

Love this signing but we really need a grad or impact JUCO guy. Ogbonda has been great for a late get. I am sure Boals has some options with more time to get someone. I can see Towns being an impact defender and athletic wing. We certainly don't have anything like him right now. Maybe he can talk his cousin into coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't that be a great get?

This guy reminds me of the players we usually see at Eastern Michigan, and I mean that in a good way (Long, athletic, not a liability in any way playing at the 3). My guess is he will be grouped in with McMurray and Murrell instead of the true post group.

If BVP wants to transfer (I hope not), he'll probably stick around another season. He'll have been on campus 4 yrs and most likely have his degree and then can transfer without sitting for a year. I have heard nothing to indicate he wants to leave or is considering his options.

I noticed on the Winchendon website, he is listed as 6'9". On VerbalCommits and other recruiting sites...they show 6'8".

Did he have any other offers?

He had a dozen or more. Check the VerbalCommits link somewhere in this thread.

Was there any indication Jason Carter wanted to leave until he put his name in the portal?

Saul was let go on March 15th, Jason Carter entered the transfer portal on March 20th.

Coaching changes are always going to cause guys to think twice about staying.
