On paper, this is a HUGE pickup. 247 sports lists him as the fourth-rated recruit in the state of Maryland. He is a Baltimore Sun all-Metro first-team selection. Here's what was written in the Sun:

Marvin Price

Patterson, forward, senior

» Played at Patterson for two seasons — his sophomore and senior years — and led No. 1 Clippers (25-3) to Baltimore City and Class 2A state titles in both

» Battled back from a torn meniscus in the offseason to average 21.4 points and 10.3 rebounds with 12 double doubles

» Hit a key 3 pointer and monster dunk to seal Baltimore City championship win against Edmondson; closed season with 31-point, 10-rebound effort in state title win over Wicomico

» Said Patterson coach Harry Martin: “Marvin is one of the best scorers in Maryland. It’s a great feeling as a coach knowing that he can give us 25-30 points on any given night. With us being a small team, we also needed him to rebound at a high level.”

I hope this new staff has a strong connection to DC and MD. It is a hotbed of talent.

Agree - on paper, this is a really good get.

To quote Lee Corso - "Yo!" What a good get.

What a beautiful spring weekend to have him on campus in Athens (something wholly not lost on Coach Boals) to help close the deal.

Granted - we've seen highly rated recruits turn into "meh" here before (I'm looking at you Diante Flenorl and Johnnie Jackson), so we have to wait and see. But on paper this is a HUUUUUUGE "git".

Glad that he's a Bobcat.

I'll jump out the window here and say Mr Price could go down as one of the greatest scorers in Ohio History. I see a lot of Paul Pierce in his game

Not concerned about if this kid reaches the potential we see on paper. Most excited that after 1 month Boals appears to have signed a higher recruit than Saul did in 5 years. Aim high.

As is Roderick, although he'll go strong with the right hand around the basket.

A long time “viewer” of the two boards and have been thinking it’s about time to join. Glad you’re a Bobcat Mr. Price. This may enable me to finally get over the 1970 World Series. ; )

Usually I say pump the brakes because people are so down on a recruit before they even hit campus. On this one - comparing to Paul Pierce before he plays a game seems crazy optimistic. I'd tell you to pump the brakes, but hey, I like the positivity and optimism around here at the moment and want to keep it going. If he's even half of Paul Pierce, I think we'll all be pleased.

Let’s hope he is as much of a contributor as a previous Baltimore area recruit, Leon Williams was.

I'm just going off of his film he gets to his spots with ease and his jumper is deadly from three and midrange. He also takes it to the cup strong and doesn't just linger around the 3 pt line.

I've always liked these kinds of wing players that have some bulk and can create their own shots. I call them power guards. Kent, Buffalo and Akron get them from time to time and they seem so difficult to guard. I can't remember us getting a similar player over the last 15 or so years.

Sonny Troutman sort of meets that description.

Walt Offutt? Dude was STRONG with the ball and could get to the hoop when he needed or create space with the dribble and his body.

No no no, I mean guys who could pass for power forwards in some circles. Chris Singletary, Calvin Betts, Jimmy Conyers, Chauncey Gilliam.

Take a look at about-to-be-NBA-draft-pick Admiral Schofield as a high school player vs what he looks like now as a 6-5 forward? The Price kid can be the next Admiral Schofield in my opinion after watching some of his video. It takes lots of work in the weight room but it can be done.

Price now:

Schofield in high school:

Needless to say, this commitment is 110% greencat approved.

I thought Schofield would end up a Bobcat for awhile... program would be in a different place if that had happened.

I get what BigTilly is saying... I don’t think we’ve really had a guy of that mold in awhile. Steven Coleman and TJ Hall (not really a guard) are the most powerful style outside guys I remember in recent times. Didn’t Jerome Tillman run point a couple times lol
