If he is eligible next season, I don't think we need any more bigs.

I agree. You have to assume Foster will improve. Big question mark is Granger. Is he ready for bog boy hoops? If not that leaves McMurray and Springs -- two guys who prefer permiter and Towns who looks like a wing.

I see some concern that he shot only 50 percent from the free throw line. He shot 70 percent the year before. Both years were based on only 63 attempts each. That averages out to be one two-shot foul per game. High variance with a small sample size, and not a significant enough part of his game to be concerned with.

Also, shot blocking is only one small part of defensive ability. A player can be a good shot blocker but not a good defender, or vice versa. I can't offer additional insight on this, other than to trust the coaches' evaluation there.

He CAN play next year. I sent him a dm on Instagram and he said he’s playing right away.

Wilson sounds like he could be an effective, if underappreciated, big in the MAC. A nice player for sure, but not one I'm sure I'd take if he has to sit one to play one. I'd only take someone who is going to be more of an impact guy in that scenario.
If Wilson can’t play next season, then I have to believe somebody is transferring out and Boals has something up his sleeve to bring in a grad transfer big man who can play immediately. If not, I’m a little confused by this signing.
Agree. And that's the only thing I see that's potentially questionable about this. We're seeing conflicting info -- is Dwight a play now, or sit one year player? I also would find this signing to be a little perplexing if he has to sit a year -- unless of course there are more things to happen that we're not yet aware of. Because for me, this group needs/needed to use the supposed last scholly on a ready-to-play this year type of player.
+1

And why is it so hard to get concrete info on if this guy is eligible next season or has to sit out a year? And if Dwight sits out this season and we don't have another scholly to use, who in the heck is replacing Sylvester in the paint in 2020-2021?
As Andrew stated, it's probably dependent on whether or not he gets through his summer classes and is considered a grad student. I don't think they're just gonna announce that in a press release on his transfer.

If he is eligible right away, this is a perfect fit. He steps into Ogbonda's role perfectly.

A starting lineup of Preston, McDay, Roderick, Wilson and BVP is exciting. Then a bench of Brown, Towns, Murrell, White and Foster...I am good with that.

Except he's a better offensive player and has been playing regularly for the last three years.

I MOST DEFINITELY want another big, preferably someone who is at least 6-9, 6-10, long and a rim protector, capable of holding his own in the MAC playing at least 10-15 minutes per game. I don't want to go into next season having to count on either Nolan Foster or Nate Springs to play that role. They both have the look to me of most likely being at least a season away from being consistent contributors.

Now please believe me: Nothing would make me happier than if one or both of them can handle this role next season. If we bring in another big to pair with Dwight Wilson and this happens, now we'd really be cooking with gas!

Final thought: Dwight Wilson, if he just holds his own at the position, could be the link we need to be in the MAC mix for sure. But anyone who knows me knows I've always thought bigger than that, going back to when I was a student and a sports reporter for The Post/Messenger during the Walter Luckett days.

My thought process always has been if you aim to build your team to compete against levels above the MAC, the MAC will be yours in the process.

Also, I know, I know, we're out of scholarships. But I do expect at least one to materialize. As we've come to expect, stuff happens...

Foster has ways to go, mcmurray didn’t show much when he played and springs is a guy I like but Boals didn’t give him as many chances as I would have liked, personally I see mcmurray transferring and adding another front court guy in his place.

I think that this recruit has demonstrated that he can play division basketball at a pretty high level. Last year, we took a guy because of height and hustle and he proved to be too slow and unathletic for the MAC. Towns will need to add strength and explosion to be effective in the MAC. The MAC is a guard oriented league where you need athletic bigs that can shoot out to 18 feet. I gave an honest critique last year and I happened to be right and I don’t mind being mocked because of it.

Too slow? Too unathletic? What were you expecting, Dwight Howard? Sylvester was a perfectly fine MAC center. I recall very few instances where he was schooled by any other MAC post player. Did he not get enough dunks for your liking?

He was fine defensively. But I don't know anyone who watched the games who can say without lying that they had confidence he could finish when he caught the ball inside 5' from the rim. Solid from the line, hit a timely three, played good defense, though.

I'm not comparing their roles in the sense of playing style, what I mean is that Wilson looks like he will take the majority of post minutes that'll be opening up next season with Ogbonda graduating.

Sorry you couldn't insert the emoji, OU Country. I would have gotten a kick out of it. Yep, you know me pretty well. In my book, you can't have enough pitching, cornerbacks..and BIGS (especially if you're not sure the ones you have can get the job done)!!! Many managers and coaches agree...

You didn't specify that.

So it's show me something freshman year or GTFO?
