I want this guy!!! Granted, we're watching a highlight film, so every shot goes in. But he's got a quality stroke and appears to fit the bold of the stretch-four that coach Boals is looking for.
The interesting thing to me is that in his first interviews, coach mentions wanting to play a PG, Center, and 3 wings. I guess this guy is considered a wing?
OU Country: I think the third wing position is a stretch-four, although I haven't officially gotten that from coach Boals. That's what Kenny Kaminsky was and what Ben Vander Plas figures to be. It forces the defense to pull a rebounder away from the basket and forces him to guard out on the floor, which may not be in a power forward's comfort zone. It also can take the double-team off of our center, if he's a legitimate low-post scorer, if we can extend our shooting range to both corners as well as around the circle, on both sides of the floor at the same time.
I didn't think he'd transfer because I didn't know Jason Carter was ready to graduate this spring or summer, but I was concerned about how he'd fit in this scheme, as stretching the floor with his "j" has not been his strength to this point. It's too late for this, but wow, if Carter had been two inches taller, he probably would have been perfect in coach Boals' system as a low-post center. Perfect probably wouldn't have been the correct word. Try devastating! Then again, if I were two inches taller, I'd be 5-9!
