That is weird. Ohio is a little strange in allowing the team to choose where they fall in the bracket. I know in Ohio HS district soccer playoffs you will often see a 1 vs 2 semi final because the 2 seed opts to play on that side of the bracket so that if they beat the 1 seed they will get home-field advantage for the district final. The logic there makes more sense to me than playing an extra game. I don't care how good you are... I want as few chances to lose as possible in the playoffs... Nobody is gonna care if you won that extra tournament game when it is all said and done...

If you take a bye, you usually have a week or sometimes even closer to two weeks off without a game, and some coaches would rather play, especially if they are sure the first round will be winnable. Realistically in high school basketball, there are teams that have absolutely no chance of even staying within 30 points of certain other teams, even if everything goes their way.

That decision apparently blew up in #3 Spring Shawnee's face. They drew #1 Tipp City in the opening round. I'm sure that's not what Tipp City was hoping for either.

Sounds like someone didn't understand the draw process. You have to consider the seeds and determine whether this would happen. I don't think our coach would have played 1st round with playing a highly seeded team.

Good stuff from Arkley on Carter. I like the sounds of his game!

Do we realize how blessed we are in a market the size of Athens County to have a beat writer like Arkley? He gets it. And he works at it. And he writes without sounding like a homer.

Jeff Mac, would say Arkley is too big for his market and deserves something bigger?

Quiz: what former Bobcat played for Sparta Highland, Johnstown's first-round opponent mentioned in Arkley's article? (Don't look it up!!!)

Two memories stick out when I think of Jason Terry's career at Ohio:

One, he has to be the only 7-footer, when lining up for an opposing player's foul shot, took the third block from the baseline.

Two, after an Ohio game at the JAR, SBH and I were walking to our car when we saw Jason, his younger brother (6-10) and their parents (both above average in height) pile into a compact car. Reminded me of the circus act where 20 clowns stuffed into a similar-size car.

Absolutely. The coverage Ohio gets as compared to say, our "rival", is substantially better. Applies to Arkley, Russ, even The Post to a certain degree.

Jason says he doesn't think Carter will get a ton of minutes next season but it wouldn't surprise me to see him as part of the rotation. I would assume that Block will slide into Treg's starting spot. If Carter is as versatile as Arkley notes then I can see him grabbing minutes at both the 3 and 4.

He's in action tonight up in Johnstown if anyone is interested. Round 2 against Granville.

Also have to throw Ellis Dozier into that conversation next year. He was recruited as a stretch 4, was a 3* recruit, so I would hope he's in the mix for major PT next year as well. There's going to be a definite log jam in the front court next year.

One recollection I have is when we played Knight's Hoosiers in the tournament, Terry misses a short one and Hunter is wildly gesturing 'slam it" on the sidelines.

My alma mater. They are back in a decent league after a long time in a poor competitive league that they could dominate but never got them ready for tourney. The would go undefeated in league and get splattered as soon as they saw Dunbar or anyone of substance in tourney. Shawnee is an old rival. Should be a good game.

Johnnies outscored Granville 25-6 in the 2nd quarter to pull away for the win in the sectional final. Jason had 16 points and 13 boards.

Johnnies will face the winner of Bexley and Bloom Carroll on 3/1 in a site TBD.

Here's some video from the Newark Advocate. There's a couple of high-low action plays with Jason (#25) involved. If he can move and pass like that in the post at the college level he'll be a dangerous player.

If the Bobcats weren't playing Friday, I'd be all for going to this game. Hopefully J-town wins, and we can see another one.

This would be a good game to see Jason play. This team will press Johnstown, and Jason will probably end up with the ball in transition more than normal. I will be in Oxford watching another game! Hopefully Johnstown can handle their pressure and somehow advance.!
