Not sure about the weekend, but Friday's games look to be streaming on Spectrum. Assume it will be the same for all.

I've seen reyn live 3 times this year and multiple times on replay and have questioned how well coached they are. But, i have to give coach Moore credit for inbounds play he drew up for game winner. On to face OCC rival olentangy orange and ohio football recruit levi Davis for state title.

First time I’ve watched them this year other than some highlights. The press they run is kinda wild to me. Feels like they get beat for easy buckets half the time.

Holy crap what a collapse by Lakota West.

Up 4 with 20 seconds to go.
Foul on drive to hoop, Reynoldsburg hits both (up 2 with 15 to go)
Get fouled, Miss both free throws
Foul on drive to hoop, Reynoldsburg hits first, misses second

Then it gets real weird and you really gotta go watch the video to understand. LW gets the defensive rebound with no one even close to him and immediately awkwardly tries to throw the ball, I think in triumphant celebration? And his own teammate sort of blocks it? And it goes out of bounds with 1 second to go. This play deserves a Jomboy breakdown it was so bizarre.

Then they leave McKinney so painfully wide open right under the basket for the easy game winner layup. I hate to see teams at the youth level lose like that. That is some lifetime haunting stuff for those kids.

Reynoldsburg sure is getting battle tested this playoff. In each of the last 2 games, they were at points late where win probability according to an ESPN gamecast would've been < 3%.

Olentangy Orange is led by our 2026 QB recruit Levi Davis. The state title game is bursting with OUr recruits.

Their offense relies heavily on just 1v1’s. Not a good way to get a rhythm

Reynoldsburg offense is notch less organized than a pickup game at the YMCA.

After that dazzling 14 point first half R-burg put up, it was tough to be optimistic.

Fisher is really good but I'm not sure what it is Bowens is supposed to be good at.

Both McKinney and Bowens are signed. Looks like it was a big OU party at Reynoldsburg High yesterday with lots of green paraphernalia around, according to some instagram stuff. Hearing they also showed out big at Lima's super scrimmage on Saturday. Should have all the expectations for another deep tourney run.

They had a freshman coming off the bench last year that I really liked and hoped Ohio's coaching staff had an eye on. That was until a tournament game at the Fairgrounds Coliseum where he sucker punched an opposing player, costing him the rest of the season that saw Reynoldsburg play in the state final game. Not sure what his status is for this season. I believe his last name is Roddy.

The Raiders seem to have taken a decent step back this season after losing Fisher, Nwokolo (Toledo) & Griffin. They sit at 7-3 overall and take on 10-0 Newark tomorrow night. Over break, they got absolutely crushed by South Bend St Joseph 88-49 and also lost to Lakota West.

Reynoldsburg is 7-3 but has played a difficult non-OCC schedule. I'll catch them tomorrow night at the Jimmy, Newark's gym. Both teams are undefeated in the OCC Buckeye and both have wins against Pick Central. Newark is led by Coach Jeff Quackenbush's son, Jake, a likely DI first team all state player.

B-squared saw Ty-squared dismantle McKinney, Bowens and Reynoldsburg last night as Ty Gilbert and Tybron Brooks, both former 6th-grade students of mine, combined for 49 points in a 66-49 Newark win over Reynoldsburg.

https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/sports/high-school/b... /

This is not the same Reynoldsburg team of a year ago, when they played in the DI state title game. And I'm afraid the same reasons Jordan Fisher is struggling to get playing time for Ohio as a frosh - slight of build, lack of fundamentals, poor defensive competence - will hold McKinney and Bowens back next year when they're Bobcat freshmen. The pair struggled mightily against a team without a DI player but an 11-0 team that is much better coached and a state final 4 contender this March.

A Reynoldsburg player I liked last year as a freshman coming off the bench - until he punched a player in a post-season game resulting in a suspension for the rest of the season - is Mehki Roddy. While he might lack the team-ball mentality and fundamentals that's a part of this program, he is not slight-of-build like Fisher, McKinney and Bowens. At 6-1, he's built more like a football player and can score at all 3 levels.

I have learned as a Newark transplant that high school basketball is a big deal here. The Wildcats are second all-time in Ohio basketball history in wins and have won, I believe, 3 state titles, the most recent one in 2008. I think they have a shot at another this year. Interestingly, the best player, Jake Quackenbush, is coach Jeff Quackenbush's son and was born the week of their last state championship win, coached by Jeff.

As a Zanesville Blue Devil, I remember many rivalry games in Football, Basketball and Baseball. Zanesville vs Newark was easily the best rivalry in what was the C.O.L. and well after. It still is today but not the same intensity.

Sadly, Zanesville is spiraling downhill to DIII or maybe DIV. I have been told by a Z-ville educator the graduating class has collapsed to 160. It is a sad scene.
