I need to open with, I love this place and have been reading for more than a decade. Ted and Mark (my PDT brother) have been a long-time information conduit to my beloved Athens and all things Bobcats. But I'm not happy and the happy people here need to show me the light.
FYI... Our Bobcats aren't scrimmage worthy with the current Buffalo roster... and they've kicked our/OU's ass in recruiting again.
Is SP the anointed one? He was hired to win and paid to do so. The team he inherited won 49 games the previous two seasons. His rebuild seemed FORCED to a system that can't win the MAC or get him a Power-5 job. Do you think this is working out for SP, next expected step? He negotiated the salary, and OU gave it to him, to win. He gets a P-5 job and OU gets a check to go get the next guy.
I m happy that he's a nice person and you are all rooting for him. I've been rooting for him too, I'm not willing to turn 4 years int 6 or 7 with a 7 figure buy out to make I'm go away.
Does anyone here understand the business of what OU basketball is and needs to be?
Two coaches get power-5 offers and it's this guys job to keep the momentum going. 4-6 years in and win games and go take the cash from the p-5 school. OU gets the buyout and hires the next guy. it's pretty simple.
I get the injuries, but I don't see the talent needed to finish top-5 in the MAC. Top 6 gets you to Cleveland!
SP won 25 games in his first two years at NDSU as head coach inheriting a program he recruited for.
NO EXTENSION!
We can't write a 7 figure check to make him go away.
This guy came here to get somewhere else and is failing. He's closer to Billy Hahn than anyone else in the Nee and beyond coaching tree. Larry Hunter is a Bobcat exception, I didn't enjoy his 5 win season. and retention, but understood it.
I'd love to have seen Nee have a Tent talent with Snoop and DJ. His first Nebraska recruiting class would have been very successful as Bobcats.
Does SP have enough to win with his fab-5 recruiting class overload to be better than preseason 3rd in the MAC East in 2018-19.
The current 10th best team in the MAC(us), injures aside, was predicted to be 3rd best in the MAC East. Was everyone already injured?
They only gave Hahn 3 years. Year 5 of this guy better be great.
When Frank reties football will just as fun.
Cleve Bryant wsa a gerat Bobcat player... they gave him 5 years and 9 wins.
SP can have another year... if he wats an extension, I'd can him now.
Enjoy his happy and humorous demeanor at the green and white events.
Time to win or get out of the way. It's the same game the rest of the MAC is playing. Lets at least try and compete.
Let's recap... beat Miami twice, but needed to go to Miami for round 1 and lost. Who did Miami beat? Is their new coach a good hire? He won more than 10 games and didn't inherit a 25 game winning program.
This is a serious conversation that Bobcat Nation needs to have without green and white confetti blowing all over the place.
Four years in... would you hire this guy again at the top to the conference pay and program support?
I'd hope NO.
He has a lot of work to do to fix Ohio basketball and more importantly for him make a P-5 remotely interested in hiring him.
I'm pretty sure Jin Christian would have more than 10 if BC didn't call.
Let's see... great at defending the 3, unable to get an offensive rebound, and great at not fouling, are they soft and not physical? Bobcats 2017-18!
I'll give him a pass for the 10 win system change. In year 4 there should be some depth in his system. How much of years 2 and 3 are his doing as far as recruiting?
I know I'm throwing grenades on this Bobcat Party, but how does Saul's roster (healthy!) match up with the rest of the east and west? His fab-5 freshman class looks like a waste of scholarships.
Is he bringing in two freshman that can play now?
How does Saul comparer to the dreaded TOS so far? Pretty scary to think about!
If you were to rank the MAC coaches (honesty) where does OU fit?
I know Saul knows it's time to produce, his future P-5 dreams depend on it... I demand it out him or go way, and so should you.
Other than he's fun to have lunch with, what is the deal?
He's just a guy not doing his job at the level he's being paid and supported to do. Win or go away. Is there another option that works for us?
Right now... TOS at OU is much better than the SP era.... SP gets ONE year to fix this. It's already HIS program.I'm not sure he can. I hope the optimists are correct and he turns out to be better than what he's shown so far.
In short, I don't think this guy is the answer. He's about to get lapped by the women's program. At the lunches start letting him know it's time to will his team to win. His boss better be telling him this. When he's at home, he already knows. Push him.
How are the spring sports looking?!!
