I agree about the quality of the article.

My question is why now ?

This seems like the type of article you put out at the start of the season,not more than a month after our season ended.

Agree on both points rp. Seems like this is an article that would have been perfect to release on that first weekend students return in January. Regardless, great work and a good story.

The timing makes perfect sense... for student journalist. The semester is winding down and that is probably the hard deadline for completion and publishing.

The writing is only one aspect for this project. The multimedia design involves photos, animation, graphic design, coding, and the often overlooked making the piece adaptive to display properly on numerous user devises, platforms and screen sizes.

This is head over heels love. Saul has to produce, he has to show that he can recruit or else we will be in the dumpster. We gave him the big contract to win, there are a lot of people with good character that would take 300k per year to lose. Last year was a wash, he got a gift with two people leaving, now he needs to capitalize.
Saul doesn't have that big of a contract.

The bottom line here is that Saul is done, unless, and only unless, we win the MAC Title next year AND the nucleus of the team returns.
Saul knew when he took this job he was real lucky which was why he always stated he was here for the long term. He went from a salary of less that $250k per to over $500k per.
Time for him to realize that this job was too big a project for him to be a success.

Did you see the numbers from the Plain Dealer article? The average compensation of the Ohio MAC schools for men's basketball coach is 560,711 and Saul is making 75k above that number. A big men's basketball salary is $2 million a year for a mid major. That is when you are paying to compete at the highest levels of men's basketball. Saul is paid about at the G5 median salary.

FWIW, Saul is above .500 at Ohio.
We have a standard and 500 is not the standard. I hope that he has a great year and retains his job.

I don't put much into a .500 record (or a little bit north of .500) overall when taking into account our typical schedule.

I wouldn't bet the farm on Saul being gone next season. A league title won't be necessary. Win more than 20 and perform well in Cleveland. That will allow him some more time in Athens. Our current AD won't be in a hurry to send him packing.

I hate to say it, but if there's no MAC Title, then the nucleus slated to return in 2019-2020 better show some serious steps towards progress. Trust me I'm a supporter of Saul, but the attendance problems are going to come into that math.
