Mid-Major opinion:

NET Explained - though I'm not sure why they can't release a better discussion on the methodology for the rankings.

It will work out in due time. Gotta get enough data points to actually reflect it accurately.

In a way, I like that Radford, Loyola, Houston are rated highly right now. Points to the fact that this *might* not be a 100% biased system like in the past. Releasing the way the metrics are used and determined would be nice though.

Ohio at 197. What a powerhouse we have become. I guess that truly makes us a Mid-Major.

An interesting follow as it relates to this, and how it affects Mid-Majors, is Mark Adams on Twitter and Facebook: https://twitter.com/EnthusiAdams facebook.com/enthusiadams

In his feed, he takes the time to point out the affect and number of "True Road Games" on conference rankings. It's pretty staggering, and an example of why for years I've argued for the selection committee to require a minimum number of non-conference road games to qualify for at-large selection. I never expect that to happen, but it would be a nice change. This new "NET" might spur on better conversations. Time will tell.

I agree, but I also question why releasing it now. Did they WANT this type of (negative) attention for it? Why not release it when conference play starts and they have more established data points to even the non-conference season out? For all of the faults of the CFB playoff rankings, they at least wait until the middle of the season to roll it out...

Great point. A great opportunity might have been to release it during halftime of the so-called 'national championship' football game. Or maybe just on January 1st?

Agree 100%. If you check out the RPI here, you'll see many of the same oddities: http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2019/rpi-live

Early in the year, RPI is always very touchy. By the time February hits, it starts to look like what everyone thinks about teams. Hopefully this new system will too.

After 30 games played each game is about 3% of the weight. Add in 3 more games in the conference tournament and its even less than 3%. Right now each game is 20% of the weight. Beating top 25 and top 50 teams on the road moves the needle.
