The original design photo seemed to show places for stats on the corners of the board but I don’t see that here. Is this a video only board?

Video boards can be portioned off, like the football board, is one giant scree with templates that can display multiple things as well as video.

It looked great at the volleyball scrimmage, and it only had a static image on it. I can't wait to see when they start pumping real content through it.

I won't lie, I'm hoping they actually use it to the fullest for real content.

Installation of the new center hung started on Monday and everything is moving right along! The support structure frame for the scoreboard looks like overkill to me.

When I popped in yesterday they had some images cycling on the board. Upcoming schedules, Bobcat Club, etc... The image quality is amazing.

Shiny scoreboards don't get fans in the building. I'm predicting some of the worst Convo attendance we've ever seen this season. Combine bonehead AD decisions (price increases, no reserved seating) with last season's record - and it will not be pretty.

Get a few key wins in the preseason and attendance will be there. Healthy, deep front line is key. Our fans are nothing if not incredibly fickle (see whining every time ticket structure changes or prices go up $5)

Yep, I agree with the poster above. Even getting one decent win in the early going can drum up a lot of interest.

What scares me a bit, and maybe this is just temporary (I hope), but for volleyball on Saturday they did not put any score info on the new boards. They kept the scores on the old score boards at floor level and just ran graphics on the new boards. I'm hopeful that it's just early on in the process and the score and game/match info will be on those new boards eventually, at least for basketball.

That was my big fear. If you look at the second photo in the original engineering study link below there were additional places for the score and stat boards between the main big boards. But I don’t see that area on the actual boards we got. Seems pretty dumb not to have a place for the actual score and clock on the brand new scoreboards we paid a few million for.

They should be able to utilize portions of the main boards for stats, basically using one board as two (or more). My hope is that they just aren't there yet from a control side. I mean, literally the board just went up and was physically completed very recently. I'm trying to be optimistic that they'll have it better utilized soon.

I would think this is just a temporary thing. If used correctly, it should take a team to run it, which I would assume means students get involved eventually.

This seems really silly. I'm sure they are just setting up graphics packages to be used in a full range of in-game situations. It's a scoreboard - it will include scores and statistics.

Per today's Messenger, the scoreboard is only 75 to 85 percent complete. They haven't installed all of the controls.

I saw that Arkley linked an article on Twitter, but a non-subscriber (me) can't view the article. Thanks for the info!

For the volleyball Bobcat Invitational, the scoreboard was bad news. Someone needs to learn how to operate this and make it functional for fans. They've had over a month to get these controls operating.

The sound system is terrible (though I hear they MAY be working on it), to put it mildly, as are the music choices. Hopefully both of these things will change. Moreover, at times they were playing music in competition with the Alumni Band, which sounds better than ever. Can’t someone figure out to shut the damn thing off when the band is performing?

Video resolution is excellent but the colors are off. The orange of Virginia Tech was deep red. I imagine other colors must have been off too.

What are they showing on the jumbo-tron? You would expect nice, quick replays of the previous play like other venues do? Nope. How about isolating players, coaches, the band, and the fans reactions to plays? No. How about the fun activites you see others doing, like the kiss camera? And no score info on the screen. They should at least have that by now.

So what do they show on that giant screen? They show the actual game being played. In other words, they are giving you the choice of watching the actual game or looking way up instead and watching it on the monitor. Are you kidding me.?!

Way past time for these folks to get their act together and join the 21st century.

Well, it’s year two with the new board at Peden and they have no clue how to use it. Could be a long winter in the Convo.

It's going to be really sad if all they can do for basketball is live video and ads for the Bobcat Club...

I'm sure it will be better staffed at basketball games. Also, there are likely more cameras on the action at basketball games as well, esp with espn3,+ etc.

We just went from a Yugo to a Ferrari. Give it a little time.

Good news, folks. At last night's volleyball game, we had stats and score on the BIG BOARD. Progress.
