Went to a Mac football game over the weekend and heard Jaylin McDonald was asked to drop some engineering classes only offered in the fall which conflicted with basketball practices. Sounds like this young man chose academics over athletics. Smart move. Not on scholly. Costing him more money and pushing his graduation further off. Ball wont bounce forever.
Good for him. I had to make the same tough decision between engineering and baseball. I too chose engineering. It was the smart move for me then and it will be the smart move for Jaylin now as well.
Good luck to him!
When I played soccer for O.U.,practice started late enough that most classes were over.
If there was an issue, including guys who were hurt,we usually had more than enough players for 2 full teams.
At that time I think we had 2 scholarships. So we were all walk-ons.There was also no chance at a pro career,so you were there to get your degree.
Most professors would work with you if you had to miss class or an exam for a game.
When I wrestled for F.D.U. 1 other starter and myself were engineering majors.
2 starters were pre-med.
It was made clear to us on the first day of practice that school came first.
They scheduled the start of practice after day classes were over.
Most of us didn't take evening classes. But if you did,and had to leave practice early.
No problem.
Same thing,if you needed to skip practice to study for an exam, that was O.K.
The professors also knew we were students first,so,except for a couple of guys who hated athletics and athletes in general, they would try to work with you, especially for labs.
Most of our labs were Friday afternoons. That was a problem when we had to leave for weekend matches.
They would either let us come in early or on another day.
At that time, most classes didn't have exams on Fridays,so that wasn't a problem.
