Similar to last year, it looks like slowing down Eugene German is the key to beating NIU. He's been the leading scorer in all but 4 of their 13 games. The other leading scorer has been forward Levi Bradley. German has had 4 20pt games, and two 30pt games. Bradley has one 25 point game, and one 30 point game. Both are very proficient 3-point makers 44+%

Of their 6 losses, two have been close losses to Northern Kentucky - one away, and one at home. The first one, at home, didn't have German in the lineup. An interesting scheduling situation for sure.

Just read Saul's comments going into the MAC season.
He states that his concern is centered around the turnover issue.
Did he not look at the 3 point shooting %?
Is he not concerned about learning how to win on the road?
The coach doesn't know how to read the stat sheet.
Like I have stated in earlier posts "The OOC schedule doesn't tell the whole story for this team, We will know after week 2-3 just where we stand and how the year will probably turn out. There are 6 games in the 1st 3 weeks of the MAC schedule. If we only split these our season will go accordingly, and we end the year 17-13. While this is an improvement over the past few years I doubt it will be enough for Schaus to extend his contract, unless we get to the conference finals tournament game.

I have not been concerned with our three point shooting since Jamaica. It is clear that we shifted our focus to creating favorable looks from 2 and shooting only the 3s that are too good to pass up. Not that we have been shooting the greatest percentage since then, but I think our season 3 pt % is still feeling the effects of our awful showing in Jamaica. It's just not as much of a focus of our offense anymore, and I'm cool with that.

I'd agree. We've hit just over 34% of our 3s since then which is fine. Our effective FG% on 3s in that timeframe is essentially the same as our 2s (51% vs 52%).

This game will show whether or not this team can make noise. I am not a one game means all kind of person but this is key to beat a team that we should beat. Nick Perkins aside, I don't see a team with a better big than Jason. Aside from Buffalo I don't know if anyone has as much experience as we do. We need 3 things to happen in the MAC to be successful:
1. Block has to bring it every game. When I say that there are too many boxscores this year where he's got 1 point, 1 rebound and 1 assist. If he doesn't score 10 points he should have 8 rebounds or 8 assists or 3 steals...something more than he has given in multiple games.
2. Cowart has to go off a few times. We need AC to have himself a few games where he goes off for 15 plus---something he has yet to do.
3. One of Gollon or Dartis has to return and not just return but play like they have in the past or better.

Interesting list.

How many of those three things do you honestly see happening with high probability?

For me -
1) That'd be nice, but doubtful for some reason.
2) Not a freaking chance.
3) Gollon maybe, but Dartis is d-u-n done.

1. Not going to happen, he isn’t just going to suddenly start being consistent
2. Maybe once or twice
3. Gollon will return but won’t be quite the same and Jordan won’t return this year

Well...some of you answered my main question as we sit here on 1/5: Is Jordie going to play? If that is a firm NO, that crushes any hopes I had for a competitive conference run. Thanks for bringing me down :)

Does anybody know why ESPN3 is showing the game is at 7pm? Strange it wouldn't be shown live at 2pm. They didn't move the start time did they?

I searched “Ohio” and noticed it was listed as a 7:00 pm start. I tweeted Russ a while ago. Hopefully someone is on it

When I clicked on the 7pm start it had the standby your program is about to begin running.

Edit: still listed as 7 but in the live now section.

Kirk off to a great start. Hey Saul maybe you should bench him! Just a thought.

Two questions: does Saul know how to coach or just talk real good? What is up with Block this year? Non-existent in all phases.

This program has fallen a long way. We're firmly in the lower half of the MAC.

7 turnovers, 0 assists. I'm just not sure how long you keep letting that happen.

What do they work on in practice? The missed free throws are disturbing.
