Not many things are worth "it". Certainly not hand dryers in the restroom. Some are easily amused and parted with their money.
when is the last time you have been in the Convocation Center? I suppose it does not matter to those that do not wash their hands.

What you call easily amused I call an innovative way to save skin cells on my hand.

Scoreboard is at least mostly assembled, not yet raised.

(perks of working near the Convo)

They need to take a video of it being raised up with the monolith music from "2001" in the background.

I have a client who coached in the Horizon league and I attended many games at YSU. They have the kind of scoreboard that some of you think is necessary. https://www.google.com/search?q=beeghly+center&ie=UTF-8&o... what? They barely have 1k in the stands and they suck. Not worth the coin.
A point I haven't read here is that the new scoreboard adds to the marketing value of the the arena and helps to attract a naming sponsor to the Convo. In fact this may be why we are seeing a new scoreboard now is because a sponsor is waiting on it before announcing.

Pretty sure Pepsi pouring rights paid for it, just as at Peden.

With the project 2 million dollars from what I read a donor stepped up to pay for the new scoreboard. Peden scoreboard was done on the cheap. A totally different situation. That is why I'm speculating that naming rights to the Convo have been delayed because of not having that scoreboard in place.

Pretty sure it was an extension of campus pouring rights which is why board had to approve expense. That was what I was told 2 years ago, but that certainly could have changed.

I bet you are right, I look for a major announcement real soon. Maybe even donor for the expansion and practice facility. Going bigtime.

That's gonna be sweet.

I wonder if the next project will be to tear out all of the gray (structural) tile around the lower bowl that OCF finds so objectionable.

I also wonder if there's a timeline for construction of the planned addition to the front of the building. I know it is envisioned as a university visitor's center that will also allow for construction of a practice court. 10 years? Longer?

Will the estate of Fred Johnson be willing to release the funds???

It's slowly rising from the Convo floor. Looked to be about 8-10' up in the air early this afternoon.

I can't answer those questions but it could be the administration which had to dig 17 million into reserves this year to balance the budget doesn't have the nerve to propose or promote an expansion of the Convo at the moment. Scoreboard is a project that was well in the pipeline before Nellis became president. Ridges redevelopment plan approved by Nellis was scaled back from the original framework plan with hotel and shops. What it is now is limited to a relocation of auxilliary services including OUPD to the Ridges. McDavis signed off on a big debt issuance to complete the renovation of campus before he left and the debt is set to peak in the next 2 or 3 years.

The next step IMO is to bring in a Solich for basketball. Highly popular retread that will get the donations flowing and incrementally get the program back to the 2012-14 level with NCAA runs and big teams in the Convo. Solich was immediately able to secure donations for renovating the meeting rooms in Peden but it was five years before a big donor came out of the woodwork for the IPF and another four years before it was finished.
