Beating DePaul on Valentine's Day 1983. It was something to behold for someone still getting use to college. The idea that I could walk to every home game and see a Bobcat team on the rise like this, especially when Coach Ray Meyer was already a legend having brought the Blue Demons to the Final Four (the first time during the Second World War.) Everybody knew about DePaul back in the day.
Secondly Miami (Jamuary 1986.) Even though it was a a loss, but to see the likes of Ron Harper (who played in the NBA until 2001) and Bobcat Freshmen Snoopy Graham and Dave Jamerson (also two future NBA players) on the same floor before a nearly packed Convo on a Wednesday night! I honestly thought the sky was the limit for the Bobcats. In my naive mind, Coach Nee was going to stay and we were going to be a national powerhouse, and of course those near sellout crowds were going to be the norm. Even after Coach Nee left and Asst. Billy Hahn was named head coach, I still thought the sky was the limit. In my seemingly rational thoughts, the Bobcats were like an up and coming band that you could tell everyone you knew when no one else did. Naturally, I was going to drive down for every sold out game and tell everyone I remember when the Cats weren't such a big deal. Oh well it's nice to be young and naive as long as you don't have to make important decisions and then it becomes dangerous, but the important decisions were still a few months away. If only the Bobcats of my naive hopes came to fruition!!!!
