I'm uptown taking care of some business this afternoon and I hear this racket down near the college gate - a bunch of screaming and yelling. So I walk down that way and and lo and behold there is our one man Ozone (the old guy) sitting in a chair yelling as if he is in the front row of the Convo. He's yelling out things like "Kent can't" and "we need you for defense." Strangest thing I've seen at the corner of Court and Union in some time. Anyone know who this guy is?

I admire his passion, but this kinda makes the O zone and going to games not cool.

It's a college town. If you want peace and quiet, hang out on high street where the evil empire has its ghetto....or Miami. Anyone who is passionate about Ohio University Bobcats gets my vote.

It's sad that an older man has more passion than the students. "Not cool?" Who cares about being cool? Get your butt to the Convo and have some freakin fun!

If you want young people to like your thing, your thing needs to be cool.

Perhaps he should be yelling for people to get off his lawn?

As a general rule of thumb, I believe anything Swank describes as a "racket" is probably a good time.

The group of boys on my youth basketball team sat two sections over from Norm at the NIU game two Saturdays ago. They asked me what I knew about him and I told them I knew very little other than he's front and center at most basketball and football games.

Now we know the story behind this fan. Great article.

Right you are. Based on what I saw and this article, Norm was indeed having a good time. The loud noise certainly got my attention to the point that I wanted to check it out. That would be considered a marketing success.

Glad to have some more background on this passionate Old Zone fan. I was in the same freshman dorm as Dan and graduated with him, and am proud to have been there the day the Ozone was established. It was both great and depressing reading that article. It just amazes me how quickly it all has fallen apart.

I love that Norm doesn't just sit around and complain, he is doing something about it. That said I also understand Shab's point in regards to how young people operate. Have a random old guy tell them to do something and they're less likely to do it. That is just the sad reality of youth.

Great article. He's also often at women's hoops games and is just as boisterous and energetic.

I'm turning into my grandfather at 34 years old. Holy crap. My apologies. Thanks for noting that. Two hours sleep a night and an itchy posting button make for lazy mistakes, I suppose.

Sounds like a natural for Hyde Park Corner.
