Stumbled across these while searching for more info about the Peden upgrades. Weird I found these yet nothing about Peden. Thoughts?

(Can't figure out how to directly post pics so use links.)

I know, right?

I also noticed a couple video screens under the scoreboard in the first pic so those on the floor or sitting courtside can look up and see what's being displayed since you likely couldn't see the actual "big" screen from that angle.

Also, didn't see any LED ribbons and noticed old scoreboards still looked to be in use. Not sure if they'd go so far as to photoshop those out or not.

I'm not sure how I feel about the whole #bleedgreen thing on the bottom of the scoreboard, unless that's just a LED ribbon that changes, but in general I think it looks fantastic. I realize those are obviously just renderings of what it "could" look like, but this is a major step in the right direction.

EDIT: yeah the #bleedgreen part definitely just looks like an LED ribbon on the bottom that will change to show sponsor ads. Xavier has something similar with theirs. Count me in.

Good to finally see the architects rendering. I'm assuming this won't be ready for this year and goes up for the 2018/19 season?

I think I recall Schaus stating that very thing at a Caravan stop.

As long as they don't project monster size images of anyone not "standing for defense".......

I know this has been discussed at length on here and I'm sure the answer is buried somewhere in old threads but isn't the weight of the screens with current technology just a fraction of what they used to be? Making the options pretty wide for how things could be configured?

I would love a ribbon board! Even taking cost out of the equation just from an eyeball test it seems like the current layout around the Convo is not install ready. The exits to the concourse would have to be reconfigured maybe?

Is a major donor footing the bill for this or was the budget planned to cover the upgrades?

Unless I'm mistaken, I think I heard Mr. Schaus state it was being budgeted for at a caravan stop?

I'm guessing that "reconfiguring the exits to the concourse" so we can have ribbon boards ain't gonna happen.

Call me old school, but a new scoreboard won't give me any more enjoyment of the game. What about everyone looking at their smart phones? Will they all of a sudden gaze at the scoreboard instead?

It might provide more readily accessible info on what's going on at the game and around the MAC, so in that sense it could enhance the fan experience.

I will say this, after going to the Dean Dome, I am not as huge of a fan of a center-hung scoreboard as others. I say this because when you can see across the floor and arena of fans getting out of their feet and going nuts for the big one, it creates the bigger collective goal of raising hell. Not sure if others share that viewpoint, but that's just me. I get it, there's the revenue component, but it's tough anymore for the collective to feel like they're part of the action with everyone in the barn in these modern arenas.

The Dean Dome is a funny reference. Most see it as a wine and cheese crowd and after attending many games there while I lived in RDU, I can attest that it takes a Duke game to get many out of their seats. Duke on the other hand, has a center-hung scoreboard and well, you know.

[/QUOTE]On this one, I definitely disagree with you. The current scoreboard is lacking necessary game information such as: fouls/points of the players on the floor. It's something that's been lacking for years. Because of the bad location of the scoreboards, it's also really tough to see the dang boards when it's crowded down low.

For those two reasons alone, scoreboard improvements are needed. And those two reasons are reasons I'm looking away while in The Convo to look at my phone for information on the game I'm physically at.

For other reasons, it's also needed. For awards ceremonies, pregame ceremonies, the presence of a real, modern video board will be really nice. I'm talking a board that people can see from the upper levels. Imagine Gary Trent day with a decent video board and sound system to show his highlights. Imagine Commencement ceremonies when this project is completed. The upgrade will be noticeable.

EDIT - add in Jeff's post above as another reason I'm looking at my phone while at the game. Give me current MAC scoreboard, and player stats for those ten players on the floor, and I'm looking at the phone a lot less during the game.

Though I'm not 100% certain what you're trying to say here, for some people, going to the game is a social event more than the game. That's what football is for me sometimes.

Luxury suites, restaurants, DJs, fan contests, dancers, shooting hot dogs and tee shirts, music blaring at every break in action you get hoarse trying to talk to the person next to you. I may be leaving a few more things out. That's what I'm saying.

You make some good points. I can't understand why someone would go to, say, a MLB game, pay the ticket prices, then spend the whole damn game in some restaurant or bar visiting with people...I thought you went to the game to watch the game.

I can assure you the "fake sports fan" syndrome is far and wide.

Half the people who go to the Titans NFL games are there because somebody from the office invited them to a pre-game tailgate party. Most of those could not name a single player on the roster other than Mariota. Maybe 1% of those could name the head coach.

Or Bungles games or a myriad of other pro sporting events. It's a chance to see and be seen. Jeff just look across the court from you at OU games and see how many students are buried in their phones. We are luddites in the modern world. Check out that link I posted about average viewing age.
