I know he had a terrible year...2-26....but 3 NCAA tournament appearances in six years? There has to be more to the story right?

101-65 overall. So he entered the season 99-38, that’s pretty damn good. And he basically left after the game was over according to the local paper, the AD handled the post game. Always been a good person, I do hate this for him.

Any idea what happened with the program? 24-7 2 years ago to just 2 wins now is a flabbergasting fall.

I'm with ya. Leaves right after the game. Obviously, he was told this is it. Did he even say goodbye to his team? Something is way off here. Saul is only 52 years old. Have to wonder what his next step is? Assistant coach somewhere at P4 level? I doubt he's ready for retirement. Made $550K at Ohio and $111K at Northern State.

Carrier record is good, have to think he will be somewhere if he want to be

Here’s what it is: the AD has been there 3 years and Saul has been there 6 years. The current AD didn’t hire Saul, so even if he wins a national title, the AD doesn’t get credit. That happens all the time.

Wild ass prediction: Saul ends up at one of the lesser MAC schools, turns them around and is COY sometime in the next few years. Stranger things have happened.

That explains a lot on AD not hiring him. But even adds to his abysmal record the last two years.

Saul was quoted in a November news article as saying that his team (the result of a major talent overhaul) would "win a lot of games."

P4 assistant would be a tremendous promotion.

Clearly the new AD didn't like this new trajectory, 1-12 at home, 1-21 in the conference, 10 wins last season. Tough scene.

I think he may have exhausted all his ties. He might be unemployed for a while. Maybe he finds himself behind a really young head coach that needs some guidance.

Our best recent season was Saul's recruits coached by Boals. Let's put him on our staff.

That's a big-time D2 program and they, obviously, don't like winning 10 and then 2 games. He inherited a great squad and then they all transferred out after an epic collapse in the regional final. Even for a good D2 team, they had guys exiting stage left a little too frequently.

I'm sure the new AD is a factor but have to win or you're out.

This is one of the most idiotic things ever written on this board, and that is saying something.

The guy just got fleshed out at a D2 school for winning 2 games in a season and he failed miserably in the MAC once already. Factor in his age, and this prediction can be filed under “moronic even for a guy that has a fetish for free shuttle rides.”

Nobody in the MAC (lower or upper - what even is that?) is giving him another shot, much less him winning Coach of the Year.

Please. Either type something meaningful, or abstain.

Saul couldn't land Idaho State after we fired him. No one in D1 will even interview him for a head job until at least after a few more years as an assistant.

UW Green Bay is going to be practically begging for new life after this Gotlieb disaster.

Just a reminder that what you deem objectionable others find entertaining.
