Well, cbus, et al, there's more to the story. See this article from Scientific American:

https://tinyurl.com/ztxko9j

This would suggest that using sarcasm increases your creativity. It also points out that it's best used face-to-face and with people you know and trust. Perhaps, that does make sarcasm on a message board fraught with danger. However, I'm one of those who usually understands it in written form and appreciates it. I've been caught off guard a few times on this board with misunderstood sarcasm, but not often. On balance, I like it, because I use it frequently myself in my everyday life.

Soooooo, was it sarcasm when he called you the Dean of the Board? Asking for a friend. (Congrats on the VSC post, by the way.)

Oldkatz I don't engage in sarcasm. I think the world of OhioCatFan. We share similar political beliefs. He might be the only poster I have ever exchanged private message with on this board. I like this board a lot and feel the sarcastic tone from Giacomo and a few others may turn us into some of those big time conference boards where good people are chased away because of a few blowhards. Too much history on this board, and certainly more history to our storied academic and athletic programs, than just about anyone else in the MAC. I would hate for us to become something we have somewhat avoided up to now. Just my two cents worth.

One thing I learned in Psych 101 is that talking in absolutes is seldom productive. Rather than no sarcasm which the writer of the article did NOT advocate, I found this part most interesting:

"Now I’m not saying all sarcasm is bad. It’s just better used sparingly – like a potent spice in cooking. Too much spice and the dish will be overwhelmed by it. Similarly, an occasional dash of sarcastic wit can spice up a chat and add an element of humor to it. But a big or steady serving of sarcasm will overwhelm the emotional flavor of any conversation and taste very bitter to its recipient.

So, tone down the sarcasm and work on clever wit instead which is usually devoid of hostility and thus more appreciated by those you’re communicating with. In essence, sarcasm is easy (as is most anger, criticism and meanness) while true, harmless wit takes talent."

OCF and oldkatz often display clever wit which as the writer states, takes talent. Keep it up guy unless this has become a safe space.

Alan, I think you know that my frustration with sarcasm on the board wasn't directed at Ohio Cat Fan or Old Katz. It was directed at Giacomo and some others. I think you also know that I am hardly the one who would use the word safe space.

I would hope anyone who has ever read Bucknuts, and a plethora of SEC boards wouldn't want our board to ever turn into anything like that. Every time I read those boards it smacks of guys who have never played or coached anything, and their frustration because of it sounds like a bunch of angry, depressed drunks at closing time.

oldkatz: I didn't think it was sarcasm, and that was confirmed by cbus.

alan: never, ever a "safe space"!

Safe travels to the team bus and fans--looks like it may be tough sledding.

Nice win!

Go Bobcats!
I didn't get to see the game, but I did get passed by the bus on I-70 heading back home from Indiana that afternoon. Heckuva win. Hoping to catch it on ESPN+ replay.
