Let the win slip away. Had multiple chances to close the game out and fell short. I strongly had a problem with giving up in the last 23 seconds of OT. TK still hasn’t matured and will not distribute the ball! Great he can score the ball, but had zero assist. If your teammates are not getting the ball to contribute, we will always find ourselves in the loss column. TK can not win games by himself. Missed FT cost the game. Over the years Saul stuck on a 7-8 man rotation. This will need to change to get the max effort out of your men on the floor. NIU rotated 10. Carter will find himself in foul trouble each game. Poorly defends. Need to work on that significantly. Let’s see if any adjustments are made for BG.

Boo hoo hoo...we lost. Oh well, you guys seem to have all the answers.
😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yep. Lost a 14pt lead at home to NIU.

Nothing to see here.

Let's extend Saul, right!

The way you downplay the trajectory of this program is laughable.

We have all the answers? Screw that! How about our highly paid coaching staff have some answers!?

This was a horrific loss. Undefeated at home and lose your MAC opener to NIU at home. C'mon. That's garbage.
For what's it's worth, the guy is a former player in the Bandy/Nee era.

Bshot, I seriously wonder if people like Giacomo are some sort of experiment from the Psychology Department. I mean we all have our opinions but Giacomo never throws out any facts, figures stats etc. It is all based on emotion, which is always a key indicator that insecurity is not far behind. This is what leads me to to wonder if this is some sort of Psychology experiment to get people riled up using emotion instead of facts.
Alan, yes I think many are aware of this fact which is all the more reason why his approach is so head scratching. It is completely antithetical to anything Coach Nee would have said or done. State your opinions (whatever they may be) with facts and data. Anyone whoever listed to Coach Nee in his post game recap with Dick Schorr, radio show, or met him on the street knows he was full of emotion but he stated his case with facts and figures to seal the deal.

I hope Saul & Co. figure something out. We can't get stuck on a number like today (15-0 NIU run) and expect to win. We can't be <1 on assist:turnover ratio and expect to win. And we for damn sure cannot shoot 44% from the foul line and expect to win.

It's not getting any easier on Tuesday. BG just dismantled Kent by 22, at Kent...

TK is a beautiful scapegoat, he is not the only problem. He is not the biggest problem. Let’s pray that we get better. JC has to play a bigger role along with BVP and others. The 44% foul shooting was awful, we have got to do better especially on the home court.

Not trying to scapegoat TK. Carter has to find a way to stay on the floor. He took another three, Now shooting 19% from there after shooting 21% a year ago. Block uses 7 possessions to get 3 points. Taylor uses 10 possessions to get 3 points. The poor FT shooting is partly a function of who is shooting them. Taylor 1-4 (57% shooter), Kirk 1-6 (57% shooter) and Block 1-4 (52% shooter).

But Ohio's offensive efficiency has to get better. Defensively, they give up an adjusted 98.0 points per 100 possessions which ranks 77th in the nation. Pretty good. Offensively, they're at 97.0 points per 100 which ranks 291st. TK produces about 81 points per 100 possessions and he uses 32% of the team's possessions while he's on the floor. If you don't figure out a way to better utilize his talents, you will have a 178th ranked team.

. . . . yeah, but how about the winning contestant in the "Pick the Band" contest during a first half media time out? Not all was doom and gloom in the Convo yesterday.

Didnt watch the game because I was in the process of moving from Ohio to Texas. But if we have a player who still leads the nation in turnovers, that's all I need to know.

Don't forget 29% from three. It was very apparent that this team can't handle pressure. NIU turned it up in the second half and we couldn't take it. There's nobody on the floor who settles things down.

The FTs were particular killers. BVP's miss with 8 seconds left in regulation was brutal, but Block missing all three really hurt. And Kirk going 1-6 was painful.

I've said this before.
Free throws are "gimmes" .

They're the same on every court.
So you can practice them anywhere, anytime.

Poor free throw shooting costs games.
Good free throw shooting helps you win games.

If they're not, they should be part of every practice.

I know high schools that still have "laps" based on misses.

It is a team built for ball movement and we have a PG who doesn't move the ball. The reason TK is our only offense is because he won't put others in a position to excel. Let me know the next time you see him dribble the ball to create for one of his teammates. Saul is clearly in his ear and you can see it sometimes coming out of timeouts but it never lasts more than two possessions before he reverts to form. Jim Christian would win 20+ games with this personnel. [/QUOTE]This exactly my point - the team may be built for ball movement and player being in the right position at the right time, but the skill sets that contribute to that are completely misaligned. You have a team that needs to win by hitting shots when they get looks, not turning the ball over and (for God sakes) hitting free throws while playing intense defense for 40 min. They are doing none of these things. I think it is a terrible recruiting job out of Saul. I don't mind his in game decisions, but a complete dereliction of duties on the recruiting stuff.

The boys had a great time in Athens. Thanks for help with the tickets, dd. You're right - too young, but by only 2 years.

A buddy of mine is a fan of Journey, Kansas, Boston, etc. . . I've joked with him for nearly 30 years that these 3 bands were really the same band, putting out the same music just rotating the name on the album/tour every other year. So when it came to selecting the correct band I truly had no idea. I was saying under my breath "Kansas" but got a little help before changing my answer to "Boston". Just wish our players were as clutch at the free throw line.

Nothing. Let's continue to watch this once-proud program, one you were once part of, continue to slide toward mediocrity. The same program that Danny Nee (didn't you play for Danny?) coached to NCAA appearances as did coaches Hunter, Groce and O'Shea since him. But nothing under our current coach. Sounds like you're fine with the decline we are witnessing on Richland Ave. But you have to realize that most Bobcat fans are not.

This time Giacomo habitually annoying posts brought a smile to my face. The whattwegonnado especially. You see one summer when I was tending bar back home in the working class town I grew up in northern Ohio there was an annoying customer who got on everyone's nerves. He usually showed up in the late afternoon, but one day he showed up at night when the bar was packed and the owner had just about had enough. You see the owner sometimes wore his leg prostheses and sometimes he didn't. This particular night he was about to put his on and was sitting behind the bar with me, when the annoying bar patron started his annoying act once again. The owner told him he had enough to which the annoying patron said whatyagonnado peg leg? The owner hopped over the bar grabbed the annoying customer and threw him through the screen door onto the street. The owner called the police and told them a drunken @#%! was in the street and needed to be locked up. Shortly thereafter the cops showed up, to tumultuous applause from the bar's patrons, and escorted the annoying bar patron to the drunk tank. The owner placed the remnants of the door on the bar's ceiling, where they were displayed for all to see for many years after that.

Nothing sums up the Saul Phillips era more than blowing a 13 point halftime lead against Northern Illinois at home and T Kirk shooting a free throw that went wide right catching nothing but backboard. Then when I think it can't get worse, I watch an Ohio team down 6 with 23 seconds left who DOES NOT FOUL!?!?!?!?!? Folks, we quit...down 6 with 23 seconds left....are you freaking kidding me???????

Doesn't seem to be a lot of fire out there on the court. Thankfully this era of basketball will be over in 2 1/2 months. No sane Ohio basketball fan can compare Saul's numbers to John Groce or Jim Snyder ever again. I don't want to hear it. Ohio basketball has officially become a joke. #EnoughOfSaulBall #2-1/2Months

Seems like I picked a good game to miss. Watching college athletes unable to make free throws is something I find hard to stomach. I expect to see some guys struggle at the line, it happens. No team runs out every guy that shoots 90% from the stripe. Seeing guys who are typically decent shooters (Block, BVP) unable to cash in is really frustrating. Coaches can only do so much, at some point players have to execute, and our guys didn't execute when put in position to win the game. Can't win them all, let's go get the next one.

30 years ago, I was down at the Athens Community Center at the basketball courts with my two kids. At the hoop next to ours was a former basketball coach who was giving a lesson to a young lady who was probably on a high school basketball game. A solid half hour of technique, drills, advice, analysis of her shot. He was patient and helpful in pointing out what she needed to do with her knees, arching her body to take the shot, stance, eyes on the hoop, etc. I watched her get better and better as the time went on. He had a mental drill for her to go through when she approached the line. To many times over the years I have watched guys/women saunter up, dribble once or twice and heave the ball up, with predictable results.

I like to poke a little fun at those who spew the gloom and doom after every loss, even a win if the margin wasn't big enough. I did play and I like to see us win, but I put it in perspective. It was great weather and my wife and I wanted to make the trip to Athens for the game, as it was a 2pm start. We had other obligations and couldn't make it. But if we did make it, seeing the campus and the Convo again, hear the band and seeing some familiar faces, you couldn't wipe the smile from my face even if we had lost by 30.
