it's been years since I/we attended a game in Toledo. we are interested in attending this year. I'll try to do some research. Does anyone out there may have any recommendations for a reasonable priced hotel in the vicinity? Thanks for the shout out about pregame.. Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State!
Randy,
Glad you asked.
A few recommendations as well as some spots to eat:
Hotels:
Holiday Inn Express
Hampton Inn & Suites
Both off of 475 and just built recently. Have a plethora of options for food and drink nearby and is about 4 minutes away from Savage Arena.
Red Roof Inn: You can fill in the blank here, it's a hotel room, and pretty affordable.
Radisson Hotel at the University of Toledo: Nice hotel, had a banquet over there about a year or so ago and was in pretty good shape.
Food:
Nick and Jimmy's: Bar/Restaurant that is a nice local establish over near campus. Not too bad of food choices beer is cold and affordable.
Tony Packo's: Go to the one on the East Side of town. Don't mess around with it's "branches." Do I need to say more?
If looking to go for real spiffy: Mancy's Steakhouse or Mancy's Italian. Mancy's Steakhouse I'd say have the best steaks in Toledo and has been around for a long while.
Of course, bundle of food options on Secor Road and 475 if staying in that vicinity, ranging from your McDonald's to Bubba's 33 and Texas Roadhouse. You have your pick of the litter if you stay off of Secor Road.
If you're leaving hungover the next day, there's a spot called the Green Lantern that's downtown. Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant but is a gem if going back via I-75. Go there for breakfast, you'll thank me.
Other breakfast spots includes Rocket's Cafe, Mayberry Diner, or Schmucker's. All three are great spots for breakfast as well if looking to stay over in West Toledo and jet back down 475 to Athens afterwards.
Downtown Option:
Would also recommend going downtown. About 10 minutes from campus and has a couple hotels there if you're looking to stay away from campus. Uber rides roughly $13 each way so not too bad of a rate. The pace has picked up and the bars have filled in rather nicely there. Good choices ranging from Durty Bird to Cock N' Bull to Table 44 to go hang out if you're looking to enjoy downtown.
If you need any other suggestions, feel free to PM me. Willing to help out to make sure you enjoy the 419 while up here!
