I ask because I was wondering about this on Block's first bucket today. He got a nice pass while cutting down the baseline and it appeared he might have been going for the slam before the Akron defender went up with him. Gavin ended up with the lay-in and the foul.

I can't recall seeing him throw one down in a game but maybe he has.

Gavin has not dunked in a game while at Ohio. I remember he had a wide open opportunity at Cleveland State in 2015 where he tried but came up short.

So now we've fallen to dissing on Gavin Block. He's played his heart and guts out for four seasons. To coin a phrase, "C'mon Man!".

That's not a diss.

Other players who surprisingly never dunked, the 6'10" KVK and the uber athlete Asown Sayles.

Block strikes me as a player with good fundamentals who does not need to showboat. Getting the ball into the basket is what counts.

If you can jump high enough, a dunk is a high percentage shot and not necessarily show boating.

Too sensitive.

Not a diss. Like I posted, the thought entered my mind on that 1st-half play.

Funny thing is, I knew as I typed and before submitting that someone would take it as "a diss".

Maybe he just has better things to do.

I think on that particular play block adjusted because he could see the contact coming and kissing it off the glass was the safest chance for a three-point play

As did Walter. Take the sure 2. Part of Lincoln basketball upbringing. Programs that teach basketball teach the game. Block is capable of dunking. Not a problem. Walt was capable too but he didn't. For a reason.

I’m almost sure Nick Kellogg never dunked in a game either.

I know he's not a Bobcat, but didn't Bobby Brannen for UC back in the 90's go all four years w/out a dunk? For some reason I recall hearing that and being amazed at that stat.

For the record, I've been playing pickup basketball for years and I've never once dunked.  wink cool

Also, Alan Swank used to play with us, and I never saw him dunk, either.

Now, Jeff McKinney, he might have dunked the ball! indecision

Now, the burning question of the day is, which of you BAers HAVE dunked.  The assembled masses want to know the answer to this burning question.  Who will be the first to admit this feat of athletic prowess?

Learned to dunk my junior year in college and was able to do so for the next 10 years. There is a certain amount of coordination that goes with dunking that I finally figured out with the help of a couple of guys who I lived with who played for Jim Burson at Muskingum.

Doesn't hurt being 6-6.

Interesting point.

I remember one of the first track practices my senior year of high school the coaches had everyone line up in the gym and try to touch the rim. We were desperate for high jumpers. The coaches already knew we had plenty of guys who could jump but were trying to make a point to us that we had guys capable of jumping high and just needed people to commit to learning the form involved with it.

I can't dunk. My biggest issue was that I couldn't palm the ball.
