I remember a number of people upset here that this thread was still alive. They didn't understand the significance or context. Seems to me this is one of the most important threads in Bobcat Attack history. The article in The Athletic should be printed and put up in the Bobcats locker room for every player to read. It will prevent any Bobcat from doing what Jaaron did again. Unless the next Gary Trent walks through that door, no Bobcat should be using grad transfer rule to jump to a Power 5 school for one year.

I am still amazed that Simmons made this decision based on very little thought on how he'd adjust to Beilein's system. This decision is reminiscent of his final play in an OHIO basketball uniform. #Reckless
Wow...I have the exact opposite take. yesterday, we played our archrival and couldn't put 7,000 people in the stands. No TV. Today, Simmons is playing in a game for MI against their archrival in front of a packed arena on national broadcast TV--and I'm not talking about CBSSN. MI nationally ranked and virtually assured of going to the NCAA tourney whether or not they win the conference tourney, which by the way will be nationally televised in almost its entirety. I sure hope Carter, Kirk and company aren't watching 'cuz if they are, they might just start asking themselves what they're doing here. As far as posting the Athletic piece in the locker room, sure, let's post a list of what-to-do and what-not-to-do instructions for those considering transferring. Look, we're not a power 5 program and the MAC is a one bid league. It's no longer the difference between Major and Mid-major, its Major vs. Minor. We may not like it, and some may not want to acknowledge it. But I think that's what the kids are seeing, and that's the reality of it.

Ho, hum . . .

So, let's just close down our program and take up intercollegiate twiddle-winks. We could probably be in a Power 6 Conference in that.
I guarantee you that the big hitters and professor emeritus at U of M get a shuttle from the official team hotel over to the game. Even myself, I’ve ridden the Navy travel party shuttle from the official hotel to the game site in Philadelphia, Baltimore and New Jersey. I guess maybe you did not rank high enough on the shuttle scale.

7 points in 9 minutes in a big win over Maryland over the weekend. Jaaron was 3/3 from the field, but also picked up 3 fouls in 9 minutes.

Congratulations to the Big Ten Champion, he clearly looked miserable and was lamenting his decision on the floor during the post game celebration.

Yes. Played a handful of minutes. Missed two shots and had a couple of boards. Finishes the season with a Big Ten championship. Going to the dance. And worked on his masters. Certainly didn’t help the very slim nba chances that he ever possessed. Certainly didn’t hurt his opportunity to play overseas.

Good for him. He's a good teammate. But he still backed his way into a Big 10 Championship by coat-tailing. I will never respect him for that. In fact, I respect him less. Once again, I wish no ill will for him but he deserves zero credit for this. Staying at OU and finishing what he started would be the hardest thing to do.

+1 You kind of summed up my feelings fairly well. No ill will, and I wish him well in his future endeavors, but very little respect.

Well, he did accomplish one thing. He got under all of your skins in a big way. This is the longest running thread in bobcat attack history.

Congratulations Jaaron! So proud of you. May the ones that still hold anamosity get over it already. He is not thinking of you or your immature comments.

Simmons is going to hop around in life looking for the next best thing because the grass is always greener somewhere else and he's one of those that appears fixated on that. His track record seems to back that up. With that said, I'm so glad he left - we got a high caliber point guard in here who has been thrown into the fire as a freshman, and has done really well! That is going to bode well for us next year big time!!

It did hurt his chances of being remembered fondly by any of the schools he played for. He may or may not care about that and that's fine if he doesn't but I'm thinking that the guys that did end their careers here feel a special fraternity and bond that he'll never have. But at the end of the day for all we know he is completely happy and satisfied by his decision. Not my or any our calls. All I can do is control how I feel about him and the situation. And just like him I'll do it selfishly. I hope he does well going forward in his playing career but his Michigan career couldn't have gone any better for Ohio. He is now a cautionary tale instead of possibly the MAC POTY.

I wish no ill will on the kid. We look at it as he made a mistake, maybe he doesn't? He will get to experience the NCAA tournament, for sure. It just won't be as a significant contributor to his team. I'm honestly shocked he hasn't had some sort of breakout game at Michigan. One game where he gets hot and has 15-18 points or something. It just hasn't happened.

I haven't seen an ounce of animosity on this board. There have just been varying degrees of caring or not caring what he does at um. I don't care but I'm certainly curious enough to read this thread. some care a little, some are following him closely.

That thread of Monroe's was WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY bigger. Groce leaving thread was pretty huge. I think there have been a few Massive threads over the years

Yes, those, too . . . Alan has a thread in Siberia that's extremely long, also.

OUVan . . . agree with your comments. Simmons is kind of like a man without a country. No roots anywhere. Maybe he likes it that way, but I suspect in years to come he'll regret not having that fraternal bond you mentioned.

Check his twitter, he doesn't look overly sad to be in the position he's currently in. If he's happy, that's all that really matters.

Haven't really been keeping up with this thread because as my Italian grandmother would say, "He's dead to me." But I did read this article and through a google search saw that it elicited a fairly long thread on the Michigan blog. Seems to be some mixed thoughts there also.

+1

And the fact that we celebrate getting a grad transfer while some disparage one who leaves as a grad transfer is steep in irony.

It was certainly his right to leave. My issue with his leaving was IF he purposely misled Saul along the way, namely not being honest Jaaron’s jr. year so that Saul could have recruited a pg. a year earlier.

While I acknowledge Kirk exhibited great promise I think the team would have been better served having Kirk been Simmons apprentice this year. Kirk being thrown directly into the fire when we were missing so many other functioning vital parts, namely no Carter and a severely hampered Dartis and to a lesser injured degree Laster made Kirk’s baptismal all the more difficult.
