Go to your profile. In the box that says something like URL of photo, you have to place a link to the graphic you want as your avatar. It has to be hosted on a site that allows this kind of a link. I'm using personal photos that I have uploaded to bobcatattack folder on my SmugMug site, but there are many ways to accomplish this feat. I hope that helps a little.
