Will it come before the end of the MAC Tournament? Will it be before the NCAA tournament? Inquiring minds want to know.

In my own opinion, if I were Schaus, I'd give him a today to get back from NIU, have season ending conversations with players, and make the announcement by Thursday/Friday. As much as I like the guy, I can't see any way they retain him.

I think you make the announcement Wednesday, possibly Thursday. What's the point of waiting?

I'd counter with what's the difference between announcing on Wednesday or Friday? They may not even be interviewing anyone until sometime after the first weekend of the tournament. Point is, I think it's decent of Schaus to let the team get back to Athens for a full day before making an announcement.

Do you think the conversation has already occurred? I can't imagine that Saul never asked Schaus. I'm just thinking they've decided one way or another and both parties know, it's just not official yet.

I would say Weds morning. He'll be in Cleveland starting Weds night with the women and probably wouldn't want to make the announcement up there. He'll want to get near the front of the line for interviewing replacements. The longer he waits the smaller the pool gets.

Keep in mind he doesn't have to "fire" him. They just aren't renewing or extending his contract. No financials to work out here.

Excellent point on the timing related to the ladies in Cleveland.

How many schools would give their left huevo to be in the position to get a new coach without having to negotiate the buyout with the present failing one?

I can think of one not too far from where I currently live.
Near the state capitol of TN.
And it's not the two mid-majors with wins in the high 20's down the street from it. (classic case of how the mighty have fallen)

Perhaps it will be a combo press conference announcing a change without the presence of Coach Phillips and they will segue/transition into the introduction of the new coach who may be flying in today and appearing tomorrow? My guess is Mr. Schaus had to wait until we lost to officially to notify the new coach who he has probably had back channel contacts through via his agent. I am not a university PR guy, so this is just my guess/2 cents worth from having known past MAC head coaches and AD's, and picking their brains to see how these things shake out.

Anyone checked out new housing purchases in The Plains?

[This is sarcasm based on the Ara Parseghian rumors in Columbus years ago that surfaced several different times. People swore that he was in Upper Arlington and had purchased property, and was sure to be the next coach at OSU. Never happened, of course.]

That's funny Ohio Cat Fan, you're right I do remember that as a kid. Didn't the legendary old sportscaster Jimmy Crum even reference that in his occasional commenatry segment? Those were the pre-public records, pre-internet age when all kinds of rumors like that got started via real estate agents and or friends (probably after a lengthy stay a local watering hole!)

With our current social media, all it would take would be for someone on our supposed vast hypothetical coaches list to be seen leaving their local airport on a plane destined for Columbus to start off a local social media/Bobcat Attack frenzy. (Unless Mr Schaus decided to spare no expense and fly him in on a chartered jet straight into the university's airport.) Whether they were coming to Athens, or to scout a prospective player, or even attend a funeral would be here nor there until the truth actually came out. It's nothing like airplane tracking via a Democratic or Republic convention to see who the prospective Vice Presidential nominee might be. However, it is probably the closest thing to social media sports hysteria that Athens will ever see.

I assume this is sarcasm. There is a zero percent chance of this.

Are you a current or former university administrator or athletic department official? Perhaps you might want to take your talents to Northwest Ohio? I am sure my friend and former colleague who works at that MAC institution would find your critique most compelling. He might even say, where has this genius been hiding?

I'm guessing this coming Monday morning or and hopefully not, the day after the women lose in the MAC tournament. Right now they are the top story in OU sports and I can't imagine undermining that with the announcement of the non-renewal of Saul and possible hiring of someone new.

In trying to think about who this may be, I keep having my mind consumed with the word "Pacer," almost on a loop. From a pretty regular tourney participant to 0-fer in the SEC is a bitter pill to swallow. Am I thinking of the right place?

Athens is such a small place. I can't believe that someone does not have a clue of what is going on. Do people think that news of the decision will be leaked earlier than the Athletic Department announcement? If so, who will get the first scoop: Twitter, Arkley, BobcatAttack.com, or The Post? Have the breakfast orders of Schaus and Phillips changed? Have there been a sudden appearance of Green and white ties or related suits showing up in Second Hand stores across Athens? Has there been an unusual order put in for packing boxes? Can guys in dark sunglasses, who arrive in Limos, be seen coming in and out of the Athletic Director's office? (Does Athens even have a Limo service?) Are there any other sources on the Internet that one would suggest following during the course of all of this.

I would think that Schaus would be using this opportunity to attend the NCAA tournament to get a feel for who is up-and-coming and potentially available. If Saul is retained for some bizarre reason, I would think that it would come at the cost of him having to bring in some new assistants known for recruiting.
