Rick Byrd retires with 702 career wins. Casey Alexander from Lipscomb (a former Belmont assistant) rumored to be the top pick to replace him.

BTW... of the 6 players that just left TSU across town from Belmont and DLU...one of them was 2nd team ALL-OVC. Boals...go get him!

Second team all OVC? Aren't we supposed to be aspiring to have better talent than that?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist) ;-)

Yeah, that Ja Morant guy, he's overrated.

There MIGHT be an opportunity here. Let's see if Nick Muszynski stays at Belmont or moves on. He'll be a redshirt sophomore. He's from Columbus St. Charles and I'd be shocked if JB is not at least somewhat familiar with him.

The 6’11 Muszynski averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in the regular season and shot nearly 61 percent from the field. He also led the OVC in block percentage.

Windler and McClain from Belmont pretty much suck too. Right?

And freshman of the year Muszynski? The 6-11 guy? He can't play, can he?

Taylor from Austin Peay averaged 21 and 9.

The TSU guy Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey, also played at Ole Miss. You may have heard of them. They made the NCAA tournament. Jacksonville State had transfers from some schools called Tennessee and Clemson that I hear field sports teams.

As probably the only one on this board who ever taught at an OVC institution, which makes me an expert on this board full of other experts, I'd say that OVC just had a very good year, and has some good talent. Go Racers! ;-)

NCAA Tourney wins since 2009

OVC 6 (three teams)
MAC 5 (two teams)

There was once a time the MAC was head and shoulders better than the OVC.

Not so sure anymore.

I think the OVC is certainly top-heavy with Murray, Belmont, Jax State and Peay.

The MAC may be deeper top to bottom.

But to turn your nose up at the OVC as a Bobcat fan, coming off back-to-back 14 win seasons and finishing at the bottom of the league ... is a pretty bold move, Cotton.

Did we have a TOS to Bryant thread last year when he resigned? I hope so, because otherwise, big missed opportunity.

If you're referring to me, I'm not. I was poking fun at some of our resident recruiting and talent "experts" that think we should aim higher, swing for the fences, etc.

Top of the OVC - top of the MAC in most years. The bottom third or quarter might not be equal, but the top of each league is pretty darn good.

Murray is a very good academic state school. We actually took my daughter to visit Murray when she was a senior in high school and the only school she was not accepted to was Vanderbilt! (she ended up a Pysch/Sociology honors double major at MTSU) But we liked Murray and we pull for them every time they play Belmont on TV.

She didn't like the dorms at Murray... you know how girls are.

I'll tell you someday what my son did to piss off the admissions dept. at Belmont. Apparently he pissed them off so bad, they never even bothered to send a letter saying they weren't going to let him in. (even though his grades and test scores were fine)

I enjoyed my years at MSU. Unfortunately, my wife didn't so much, as the biggest women's organization in town was the UDC. Her g2-grandfather having been stationed in the Bluegrass state with the 185th Ohio Volunteer Infantry to prevent a Confederate incursion through the Cumberland Gap disqualified her. I'm not making that up, just to fit one of my usual memes. Yes, the academic reputation is good. To toot my own horn and MSU's at the same time: A former student of mine just had a book published by the UK press that was based on his master's thesis, which I advised. He dedicated the book to me, which made me very happy.

You can find out more about that book here: http://tinyurl.com/y34xbq32

The MAC was vastly superior to the OVC this season.

NET rankings: MAC 9, OVC 24
Sagarin ratings: MAC 9/11, OVC 25

The top four teams in the OVC are good to excellent. Belmont and Murray would probably have been 2nd and 3rd in the MAC this year. However, the bottom two thirds of the OVC is one of the weakest groups in Div. I.

Having said that, there is talent there and I wouldn't rule out checking out transfer prospects.

Thanks, Jeff, those stats backup what I thought to be true. Isn't that the best use of statistics? ;-) Seriously, I agree that overall MAC > OVC, but that MSU and Belmont would be very competitive in the MAC. If we had had Morant this year instead of TK, I think we would have at least gone to the NIT, and Saul would still be our coach.

Jacksonville State is really good. APSU ended up being decent this year (despite losing to Ohio!).
