I received the following email this morning from AD Jim Schaus, thought the Ohio Athletics email account. I'm sure many of you received the same thing:

I want to sincerely thank you for your past support of Ohio University men’s basketball as a ticket purchaser. I have long believed that the customer is always right and we need to ask and listen to our fans’ needs.

So I am asking you: How can we do better? I would appreciate your sharing areas where we need to improve, big or small. It’s your chance to directly let me know how you feel. Also, please feel free to share the things that you like so we can make sure we keep doing them.

Please e-mail me with your thoughts. The following is my direct e-mail and it is one that I review and respond to daily (schaus@ohio.edu ). I appreciate your taking the time to write because I want the fan experience for Ohio men’s basketball to be the very best one for you, our fan. I will then review all the comments with my staff and attempt to address as many as possible beginning next season.

Thanks again for your time and support. I am confident that the future of Ohio men’s basketball is bright! Go Bobcats!

Jim Schaus
Director of Athletics
Ohio University

Perhaps he's been seeing some of the comments on this board about the quality of the game-day experience for men's basketball. Whatever the reason for the email though is irrelevant, I just think it's a positive step and plan to email him a suggestion or two.

Agreed that it's a positive step. I think it'll be interesting to see if he takes any of these suggestions and makes them reality. There's a question on here whether he listens to fans and their suggestions. Putting some into practice will be a telling sign.

Or perhaps Dr. Nellis is.

Hire back Drake Bolon? That would be the first thing to do.

I can't disagree with that.

After receiving the same email, one of my responses in conversation to fellow Bobcat basketball friends was to ask "do the folks inside The Convo read the BA forums on a regular basis?" Because if they did, I feel like they'd often times get almost real time feedback on things that this letter is asking about. I'm not suggesting everything we as fans talk about here is doable, or makes sense, but there are often some well thought out ideas in this forum that might be useful information for the folks selling tickets, marketing the programs, and running the gameday ops/facilities.

Obviously there are negatives to doing so - the most notable being the quantity of negativity at times, but it seems like monitoring this forum would be a good thing to do at times.

Refresh my memory, didn't Drake do something to DESERVE to be fired? Was it something with the financial records, tampering, or something like that?

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking when I read the post above yours. I am not sure where he is now but I hope they are monitoring the cash.

Yeah... I don't think you want him back. He stole roughly $6k from the university associated with the OZone..

If you actually believe that, I've got some oceanfront property in Amesville available for sale. It was a ridiculous fishing expedition by a rogue OUPD officer - and ended up being totally dismissed (more like laughed out of) court.

Drake is now in the consulting world for small/mid-major athletic departments and probably making 2 or 3 times what he did at OU (I'm a pretty good friend of his family).

There wasn't any O Zone Money stolen. It was just used for various things(Sales prizes, student promo prizes, etc).

Then why did the athletic dept not fight for him? Doesn't make any sense. I'm just going off what I was told. I was a student there when that happened. I'm not discrediting you, just curious as to why they wouldn't try to keep him. I enjoyed him there.

As for the oceanfront property, if you could find some in Morgan County, I'd be on board. A little more upscale than Amesville..

Personally I'm going for Vinton County over off of Lake Hope. Plus the restaurant there is fantastic.

If riverfront property in Morgan Co, I'm in as well. Good bbq joint up in the McConnelsville area

I am with you there. Lake Hope is spectacular and the motorcycling roads are some of the best in the country....unless the leaves are changing.

I'm shocked that I am the first to mention this idea:

-when holding a press conference to introduce your brand new men's basketball coach, make sure to have the proper electronic infrastructure to have a live stream. Oh, and that it actually starts on time (or so I have gathered from those who said it was late).

You are the first in this thread, but it was mentioned in a couple other threads. And, I agree: Bad look for OU Athletics in this case.

Indeed. He was a hard working, dedicated man and deserved much better.

Because he had no interest in returning after the circus from OUPD and voluntarily left before any "fight" would ensue.

+1 Indeed. Probably put in more hours than anyone in the Convo, coaches included.

25 minutes from Athens? You must know a back way I have no idea about cause it takes me 40 minutes at least and praying my car holds together

North and east of Athens. Great driving roads with good pavement, twist and crest then dive and do it again and again. Drive home is a bit more challenging when you're full.

50 minutes exactly from my house on the east side to the bridge. 25 minutes - you'd have to average 90 miles per hour to make the 37 mile trip.
