Score of Buffs-CMU was close, can anyone tell me how the Buffs played?
Other than the fact that they couldn't hit a three for nearly all of the first three quarters, they looked good. They were more athletic than CMU at several positions. Summer Hemphill more than held her own against POY Reyna Frost, and several quick guards made life tough for Presley Hudson, especially when she had to run the point when CMU's PG ran into foul trouble. It looked like the Bulls were going to run away with it in the second half, but then CMU made a nice run to get back into it and take a small lead, mostly on the strength of three point shooting. Cierra Dillard, who was awful from three most of the game, didn't let it bother her. She simply starting driving to the rim and proved to be unstoppable. Then Hannah Hall, who had started at point for the Bulls most of the season but lost her job for the last several regular season games, took advantage of a starting opportunity and nailed a three to put it away.
If the Bobcats shoot the three the way they did today, it would go a long way toward neutralizing the Bulls height advantage. If the Bobcats can keep pressure on Cierra Dillard when she has the ball the way they did against Lauren Dickerson today, they might keep her numbers down. Dillard is considered to be a likely WNBA second or third round draft pick. Buffalo is terrific at pushing the ball after a defensive rebound, and will put up a lot of points in transition unless Ohio can get back. And the Bulls have a secret weapon - seldom used Autumn Jones played with her hair on fire coming off the bench today. I'm not sure she even scored a point, but for the time she was in she was a real defensive force.
