Hats off to a great performance against a great UB team. Making only 3 of our 3 point attempts and being able to hang in there shows this team can win. I remember sitting at the Marshall game and thinking we could compete for the MAC this year. That's the same team I watched with pride last night.

All this being said, I don't think that changes the fate of Saul Phillips. With him likely being gone, who do you think hangs around? Surely some of the guys who received zero PT will go to a smaller school in hopes of getting minutes. But from the contributors, who goes?

My guess- maybe BVP, but he already lost a year due to injury. TK could see the writing on the wall and take an exit, but that's not the end of the world. I think Dartis and Carter stay but I'm painfully optimistic (see comment above about winning the MAC).

As critical as I've been of TK as a point guard, I've heard that he's a very nice young man, very intelligent, and very coachable. It sounds to me like he's not the kind of person who will make a rash, emotional decision about leaving. It may depend on his assessment of the new coach, if that's the situation he's presented with.

I've heard very similar things. I shouldn't cast stones from afar. He's young so he can still mature into a good player on the court. It'll be interesting with a new regime how they handle 3 guards if McDay stays committed and can make an impact next year.

BVP came to play for Saul, really doubt he stays. Will follow Saul if he lands another coaches job. Remember the BVP / Saul Wisconsin connection.

As for Dartis. There is NO - NO - NO guaranty his body will allow him to come back. He wants to, working hard at it and will be here if it happens.

BVP can follow Saul... to a non-head coaching position. Maybe the sinking ship at his NDSU
"mentor" at Nebraska, who should be fired too, awaits Saul.

Did the after-Nee people at Nebraska really think the Big-10 would be easier?

I don't think he would give up another year to sit. I also do believe, though, that he could choose a D-2 for a year and play and then move back up or go JUCO and then move up. I definitely don't see him sitting another year. I also think it will come down to if Carter stays. If Jason stays then other guys will say "he's our star for the next 2 years, I am going to join him." Murrell and Cowart have already had JUCO so they're staying. I could see Preston going only because he's from Florida and came here because Saul recruited him. He's had a nice freshman year and would be a lot of fun at a Dunk City type of place.

Dartis if healthy is back. Springs, McMurray and James all could be toss-ups. TK is intriguing. With Preston at the point he has really grown into his role.

There is a lot of potential to have a core group of guys who have been around have been playing well late in the year: Cowart, Carter, BVP, Murrell, Preston, Kirk.

Adding Jordy into that mix is a big deal. But there are still a lot of holes in the roster. Ohio really, really, really needs Springs to fill the defensive hole Doug is leaving behind. Really curious to see what McDay could possibly bring to the table as well.

And I think with the extra scholarship, whomever the staff is, they definitely need to go out and get another big now that Jimmy G's scholarship is open. We could see another thin front line where Ohio is relying on two stretch 4s in Carter and BVP. If they got in foul trouble we'd be hurting real bad. Ben Wight may be that guy, but to me he looks like another guy who needs a year in the weight room. We need a bruiser.

The more roster turnover that occurs for the next coach, the better. The names being proposed as part of the roster to remain does not bode well for the future.

Because that lineup can't finish in the top 4 of the MAC...that's why. And the new coach has to do something about Preston and TK shooting form. How can we have two college basketball players on roster who release their shot from the hip? However, I think it's 50-50 if we see TK in green and white next year. Regardless, both guards in the off-season need to work on their "money shot". Somebody get Dave Jamerson to Athens for a week and work with these fellas on their release point.

While I think the roster turnover depends very much on who the next coach is, I’m guessing that most of the players aren’t going to feel real good about Saul leaving. While many on here don’t accept injuries as a reason to not be competitive, I doubt the players look at it the same way.

Myself, I would like to see all the players that saw significant playing time stay, but I’m in the minority here. I would expect the new coach to coach them up in areas of weakness.

Anyway, I expect 5-6 new players, maybe more so it should get very interesting to say the least.

I'm with you - I don't expect every single guy to stay. It's just not reality in 2019.

Agreed. Free throws, 3 point shooting, turnovers...most of the problems here relate to fundamentals. Some of the kids we've brought in need work on fundies...and that's where player development comes in. This staff has come up short on making Bobcat players better.

They all have time to get better. All I think can fill roles on a top MAC team. Obviously more talent needs brought in around them. All of them played bigger roles than they should have because there wasn't enough talent.

I completely agree that their form isn't good, especially TK. But, if a kid that is 18-19 years old and has been shooting a basketball the same way for 10-12 years, how much can it really be changed now? The real travesty is that nowhere along the line for TK did anyone fix his form when it could have been more easily fixed when he was younger.

Agreed on the 'along the line' thought. Maybe it's just me, but I'd have been out ahead of this with TK after his freshman year. I'd have said, the first off seasons day in March, we're going into the gym to work on this jump shot to improve it, and therefore his overall game. That would give 5+ months to improve the shot.
