Short of a massive string of upsets, Buffalo is in the field.

as good as tha tteam was playing they fizzled liked a dead firecracker after boals injury. that shouldn,t have happened. a good general has a battle plan to account for something like that. a healthy boals may have got them into the elite 8. had that happened I wonder what offers hunter may have gotten from bigger schools and if he would have stayeded on at ou

we did have a way to hang with unc that year in the form of kendall marshalls absence. if he had played the blow out that was developing early in the game when unc jumped to a 14-4 lead would have been completed. much as we all would have liked ou to beat unc Kansas would have blown them away in the elite eight. perhaps the unc loss saved ohio a massive humiliation. final score for that game probably would hae been Ku 110 Ou60 or something like that.

It's ironic that it was reported at about that time (don't remember the exact year) that Hunter did have an offer from Kansas State that he turned down, basically because he wanted to stay at his alma mater. He was loyal, but it turned out not to be a two-way street. I still maintain that TB fired Hunter too quickly. Maybe at that stage he should have given him a shorter than usual extension of his contract, but the firing, IMHO, was not warranted at that time. His record was slowly improving from the five-win Wilderness Campaign. His last year he was 19–11, 12–6, 3rd (East). And for SBH, who thinks I evaluate coaches and AD's on how I get along with them personally, Larry and I never saw-eye-to-eye. The last time I remember talking to him, he turned around and walked away because he didn't like what I was saying. It had nothing to do with basketball or athletics, it was about local politics.

Are you serious? Ohio would have lost to Kansas by 50 in the Elite 8 game? Come on man. I was in St. Louis for that UNC game. If we won that, Ohio would not have lost by 50 to Kansas. I don't see any humiliation in losing an Elite 8 game...no matter what the score is...if you are the Ohio Bobcats. Good lord...this post is ridiculous.

UB will go as far in the NCAA tourney as Jeremy Harris will take them. Saw them play multiple times in Nov and Dec this year and noticed he was not hitting the shots he made regularly last year and I thought it was just a matter of time. However, it appears he never found his touch this year, hitting around 26% from 3 after hitting nearly 42% last year. UB, to go deep in the tourney, will need Harris to find his touch.

In my opinion, The Athletic is well worth the $40-50 a year to subscribe to. They also offer trial subscription options.

For me, this brings to mind this question: When will we get "TOS to Buffalo"? It has to happen this year, right?

#ThreadDrift - did any group of Ohio recruits ever come with more national ranking / hype, yet do so little in their tenure than the trio of Sanjay Adell, Corey Reed and Diante Flenorl?
Were Dave Jamerson and Snoopy Graham in the same recruiting class? If not, one year apart? Both were NBA draft picks with very little team success at Ohio under Billy Hahn.
I think they were and Jamerson had an injury to keep him round for another season without Snoop. Going to the games was more about seeing if Dave would drop 50 than actually winning them. It was still fun!

Nate has to go after this year. He did what Groce didn't....give it one more year with the same squad and man is it going to pay off.

Isn't there an issue with his wife's cancer, and the excellent relationship they've developed with doctors in Buffalo? Can't remember the details, but it seemed like she wanted to stay under the care of the same doctors, and was reluctant to trust her health care to a new set of physicians. At least that's what I took away from some comments I saw awhile back.

Maybe he's starting to find his outside touch just in time for the big dance.

Yup. There is just too much talent leaving the program...If he stays I will be shocked. The extension was just a way to get big buyout dollars for UB.

Whether he stays or goes, Oats has built a great thing at Buffalo. They have a great returning group of players and have one of the best incoming recruiting classes in the MAC. Hopefully Boals and OU can pass the current dynasty of the MAC.

Personally I hope we recruit on their level. I want more NCAA units as a league personally and would like to have a Sunday like the OVC had officially.

This team would wipe last year's Loyola Final Four team off the floor. If Buffalo can somehow beat Texas Tech, it can get to the Final Four.

I'd like to say that it's outlandish, but it really may not be. Especially Houston.

I think it will happen. Was scouring their board for a while waiting to see the buyout but no one has really put anything up except to say it was surprisingly low. http://ubfan.com/bb/index.php?/topic/417-nate-oats-contra... / . I was surprised by the ticket price discussion on there as they lament a potential rise to 200 bucks for a season ticket. There is already a huge carousel and it is just gathering steam. The carry over to the Oates thread from the Cost of Winning thread http://ubfan.com/bb/index.php?/topic/437-the-impact-of-wi... / is interesting. Looks like several boards from Maryland to Illinois are asking if Oates is "their" hot name.

Well...this game has been very depressing. Sad to see them go down like this.
