Cowart was solid, I wish he would have stayed. Boals should probably take some grad transfers to hold down the fort and use most of the scholarships on a higher talent pool next year.
I’m sure Coach Boals will be calling you for recommendations
The problem is your preferred style of posting would reduce this entire forum to a series of people posting "Go Bobcats" and "I'd post something, but let's defer to the coaches" 100 times in a row.

This indicates to me, JB is ripping the band-aid off the cut. I give him full props. He wants it to be his team as soon as possible. Carter heading to X (to get his 5-10 minutes/game) was the first sign. AC entering the portal makes me feel bad for him but I don't know that he had a choice. We shall see. Now back to Allen and Billy arguing with each other over BA.

I agree that a few have been asked to leave. Boals likely looked at film, a workout or two...and grades. I was told this team's grades are, uh, not good. Sorta belies the Saint Saul myth, no?

My guess is that JC was not asked to leave, but left for two reasons:

1. loyalty to his old coach and some degree of upset with the coaching change,

2. he saw an opportunity to play for better team and not have to deal with all the chaos that may be OHIO basketball next year.

I have no inside information, just my perception from a distance. I did think that JC really played extra hard in the last six or seven games. I interpreted that as an attempt to save Saul's job.

Hard to believe he’s going to stay division 1. Dude disappeared and looked like he was afraid to shoot the ball. Those saying he was solid, what did he do? I remember exactly zero times Cowart doing anything positive. He wasn’t bad... he just didn’t do anything
I remember being told this guy was a defensive wizard. And in his last game as a Bobcat, Eugene German dumped 18 points on his head in the first half of Ohio's MAC Tournament loss in Dekalb. I can't remember one thing this guy did that stood out all year.

The whole roster is being shredded and I have zero problem with it.
.

And you know what about D-1 basketball .. never mind. Cowart was our best defensive player. Nice of you to try and cherry pick data. The year was almost 30 games .. not 1 or 2. But whatever ... Boals is Wooden 2.0.

I'll stick up for Cowart a little bit. He hit a couple of treys in the first half against Xavier that helped us stay in that game for a while. I remember thinking maybe he's gonna emerge as an offensive threat (I was wrong).

I hate seeing all the chaos, but maybe things need to get worse before they get better.

Congrats Jerry....Antonio was the best defensive player on a last place team. Many on here don't really see how this is a major loss. It's not like we are losing CJ Massinburg. Best of luck AC at your next stop.

Obsess much about John Wooden? You seem to mention him in every, single post. Enjoy and embrace the rebuild of Ohio basketball my friend. Coach Boals is doing it his way. You can't be "Mr. Nice Guy" in this business all the time if you want to improve your roster for the future and get back to winning. I get the feeling that Coach Boals isn't about handing out participation ribbons and trophies to his players.

Gotta get the right people on the bus first before you can do great things, and unfortunately sometimes that means some people have to get off the bus too.

Good to luck to Antonio, thanks for your contributions this past year.

My answer, to my own question in regards to how many minutes AC would've played on this years UB team is 0 as well. On a more normal MAC Championship team, maybe 5-10 minutes per game. Just a wild hunch.

At the same time, I wish he would've stayed in that JB trying to add 7 guys in this short of stretch appears unrealistic. Add to that, he's two assistants short, he's short-manned and short-staffed simultaneously. AC could've served as a one year filler to bridge the gap so that JB doesn't have to do, what I hope he doesn't do and this is pick up guys he doesn't feel great about, simply because he has to because he's in a huge pinch. Almost kind of like an NBA move where you add expiring contracts biding time for next years potentially big free agent market. Choose wisely right now JB and if what you want isn't here right now, have the patience to wait until you get a full recruiting cycle. Adding the wrong guys, or guys you're not sure about now, will keep us in this underperforming cycle even longer.

Seems like a tough position. SP first year is made out to seem very difficult, but this seems way worse from an arms length. That team had some talent, with what sounds like a poor culture/couple bad apples. This sounds like very little talent + unhappy campers to boot.

I don't think this will be the end of the mass exodus. Round 2 is likely to come after next year. Will the hold overs like McMurray, Springs, Murrell, be happy they stuck around if they are recruited over? BVP & Preston assuming they stay my also decide it's not for them. Could be searching for 7 more guys after next season.

My hypotehtical team for this year is 11 scholarship guys (BVP, Dartis, Preston, Murrell, Springs, McMurray, McDay, HS Recruit #1, HS Recruit #2, JUCO BIG, Grad Transfer wing) Hold 2 for the transfer market or bank for next year when we're looking for more HS guys to build long term foundation.

Starting 5.... Preston, Dartis, Grad Transfer, BVP, JUCO Big. Depth relies on HS guys, a guy who showed improvement late in year, and 2 entirely unproven RS Freshman. Of course this assumes we find starting quality players to fill that starting 5. I see this as best case scenario. WOOF.

Cue up the 15+ page thread about Carter and his playing time, points per game, etc. at Xavier now. It's as if we as a fan base went from "check out how awesome this freshman Carter kid is!" to..."meh, he's really not that great" the minute he announced the transfer portal. Some seem to have the jealous ex-boyfriend look going on with Simmons, and now Carter.

That aside, I'm in agreement with the idea of making it his team, his way, right from the start. The approach of telling a player if they aren't on board with the new way of doing things, they're free to look elsewhere is okay with me.

I hated when Jaaron did it but it feels so right with JC. We should throw him a pizza party this weekend and name a street after him. What, he is only moving up, this is the new way.

Did I read this right? allen is throwing a BobcatAttack pizza party this weekend? Which Good Fellas are you buying pizza for all of us at? I'll be in the area tomorrow, and don't have lunch or dinner plans yet. :)

So "Saulcohol" is code for your buying a bunch of great beers from Jackie O's for all of us to go with that pizza? Or is it some white lightning from Straitsville Special Moonshine? Either way, you're such a generous Bobcat Attacker!

Jeff, how much per hour for you to teach me how to watch the game? Guess I need to boost my BBIQ.
I mean, he created a thread where he pushed hard for Saul to be retained when everyone else knew that he was gone. Pretty difficult to take his observations seriously.

If we've learned anything in the last 18 months on this basketball board, it's not to take very, very few people's "observations" about talent and coaching abilities too seriously. I can think of a max of three people in this space who have actual qualification to be taken seriously. The rest of us are just fans and hoops junkies who think we might know something, and in reality, don't know much at all.

On Cowart's defense, take a look at the high scoring guards we played against throughout the season and notice that most of them didnt have great games against us. For example, Cowart limited Elmore of Marshall until the game was over and it was junk ball and Elmore paddled his stats at the end.

Relax, Jeff.

I believe OU Country considers you one of the three on here to take seriously.

So by this reply, I take it you, a)agree with the assessment of Cowart, and b)agree that Saul should have been retained
