Lots of pink slips going out today.
Actually the timing of the Vandy announcement that Bryce Drew was history came within hours of Nevada's season ending. Musselman's name had been whispered around Nashville for weeks already.
Surprised they fired him that quick
That department being run by the college's Phys Ed department is a mess. Bryce Drew deserved better. He will land on his feet.
Vanderbilt's athletic department is run by the athletic department inside McGugin Center by athletic director Malcolm Turner. Since 2007 when the former university president went back to Ohio State (the one who changed the name of the athletic department to the department of student whatever) this is what Vandy has done in athletics: Six bowl games after none in the previous 25 years; top baseball program in the nation, having gone to regionals/super regional and/or college world series EVERY season in that time. National champions in baseball. Record number of MLB first round draft picks in that time. Six NCAA tournaments plus the N.I.T. in basketball during that time plus... Seven NBA draft picks. etc.etc.
Bryce Drew on the other hand...
First Vanderbilt Basketball Coach With 20+ Loss Seasons; Worst losing streak in program history; Worst SEC record in school history; Worst league record in 70 years of any SEC team; first losing home record ever at Memorial Gym in 67 years.
I'd say the athletic department has done pretty good since E.G.G. went back to Columbus while Drew has been somewhere between a train wreck and a dumpster fire.
