Schaus has always preferred to hire folks with head coaching experience. Whether you think Saul has underachieved or had back luck or some combination of both, that was a great hire, that no one complained about at the time.
If Boals understood that, that might be what drew him to Stony Brook to make a more official audition for a job with his alma mater or any another job.
