Richard Johnson maintains that breaking an NCAA rule is not the same as breaking the law. Paying a player to come to your school is similar to any company offering a top employment prospect a signing bonus. Things will have to change.

For those out there that think a panacea exists, where you can pay players and all will be well in college sports are about as delusional as those who think you can have pro sports involved in the world of professional gambling and nothing bad will happen.

Some of us didn't have athletic scholarships or parents with the financial means to pay our entire bill. We worked our way through school, taking out loans and getting scholarships and grants. It took me ten years to pay it all back and that's being in the field of Education where I was hardly pulling in a lot of money. Yet, we are not complaining.

The world of Higher Ed is not sustainable. The costs are ridiculous and too many are graduating with degrees in under or unemployable majors. Believe me, I had to break the news to some students and it seems like I was one of the first who did, which wasn't exactly what they or their parents wanted to hear. The most repeated phrase I often heard was; "Why didn't anyone tell us this beforehand?" Well in fairness to some universities they might have mentioned it, but not with the emphasis that was needed. The world of Higher Ed is a mess, but one that provides a necessary outcome, a degree. It has to be fixed but with real solutions not band aid approaches.

I don’t know what solution is, but when the two highest paid state employees in Ohio end every other state are the men’s hoops and football coach at OSU, we have a problem. And not by a few bucks. I agree with you about higher education. I believe it’s in a bubble for a lot of reasons.

I don't know who you associate with thinking there is no $, tattoos, jerseys. (in our back yard).that's besides the point. growing up here and going to OU. I have personally known many players throughout the years. I have seen it here in little Athens with my own eyes. I lived on OSU campus and saw it. the cheaters are just getting better at it. I am not going to mention names. In fact most of gambling comes from small/er. programs throwing games because its not under the radar as much. Does any one recall a couple big guys driving around in Escalades in the past, I do

I remember our AD questioning a parent when one of the basketball players showed up with a new car. Turns out she was stealing money at her work. Had nothing to do with him taking money.

And this craziness will just make things worst. Reform of higher education - answer one simple question - what does this office/program/building have to do with education?
