Think about this one before ..........

The head coach at Xavier is the brother of John Groce at Akron

Old slogan- what goes around-comes around
Think Green, Think Bobcat Green

Very interesting quote from the article:

"Everything just clicked," said Carter. "The staff I really trust and that was a big thing for me going forward is finding a staff that I can really trust and is going to get the most out of me and push me harder than I have been before.

The article also says he's on track to graduate in the Spring or Summer.

Playing against guys 2 inches taller, quicker, and more athletic than him every night in the Big East. Will be interesting.

Reading all this makes me wonder how committed he was to staying even if Saul was still there.

Whatever. Wish him the best. Onward.

Everyone needs to take a step back and think about the last 2 years. 2 years ago JS was way to busy interviewing anywhere he could for a new job to talk extension with Saul. Last year after injuries, bad luck and such. JS let Saul's contract expire this spring . SO. For the last year everyone knew Saul's job was up, unless he won - big time.

Now, you have to know. " Everyone in NCAA Div. 1 knows someone that knows someone that knows you".

In other words. I suspect, BACKCHANNEL talks with our players started mid Jan. this year. Along with the same BACKCHANNEL talks with the next coach.

Bottom line. I'm not the least bit impressed by how quick Boal's was hired or how fast Carter transferred .
I suspect we may see more changes as the talks can be out in the open.

I said it during Jarron's last year in Athens and got laughed off of this board when I heard chatter in both Columbus AND Ann Arbor. It's not rocket science if folks are inquiring with you about a kid in some manner, especially when recruiting insiders are picking my brain over. I mean I hate to say it, but I'm willing to bet there were intermediary conversations about Carter, whether thru Frayer or not. Bottomline is Xavier knew blood was going to be in the water and they capitalized.

And P.S. If you really want me to go find that thread where half of BA laughed at me on that one and got distracted in the Jarron chatter because I said he'd be a fool to not transfer, I have already found it where I also spell out who I am.

Well this is a total bummer. Jason Carter can be a beast no doubt. Too bad he and Dartis never really got the chance to show what was possible when on the court together.

Thank you Mr. Carter for all the hard work you put in for us Bobcat fans. Hate to see you go. Too bad your time here coincided with so many program handcuffing injuries. But, good luck nonetheless.

I have heard rumblings that Saul's practices were relatively lax.

I am going to wait for a few more weeks to go by and have the dust settle before I make a comment of this coaching change and it's impact on the players. It's way to early to look at the total picture. NO RUSH TO JUDGEMENT HERE!
When JC left all 3 of his recruits backed out of their commitments. Not sure if any of the current players left? Maybe someone on this board knows.

Jason probably saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and busted his tail in the classroom last year while he was laid up due to the injury. Can't really blame him for that.

The question I'm asking myself is: will he be eligible by season open or not? If he graduates by May, yes. But if he graduates by summer won't he have to sit for the first few games until fall semester is over?

I 100% don't think Carter leaving has anything to do with coaching change. I have a feeling if Saul stayed, Carter was leaving for X anyways. He doesn't want to be the big fish in a small pond. He wants to be the minnow in a sea..

I wish him the best, if he wasn't happy or saw opportunity elsewhere then great for him. It gives us an extra scholarship to bring in a good athlete. Did he have great stats? Yes. Was he a good kid? Yes. He also averaged 16/5 on the 2nd worst team in the MAC.. Put things into perspective. He can and will be replaced.

How do you know he wants to be a "minnow in a sea" versus being the "big fish in a small pond"? Do you know something we don't?

I know he transferred from a school where he was our best active player vs competing for time at Xavier... 2nd worst MAC to 3rd in the Big East. I don't see him getting a lot of PT there, especially next year..

I think there's a lot of underestimating Carter here. as for personal feelings, he had a nice run, but he's no longer a Bobcat, so good luck and next man up. I think he can do well at Xavier. Imagine if he's on a team that can actually shoot and he isn't the only focus of the offense. He's got enough post moves to neutralize bigger defenders, is athletic and can shoot outside enough to be dangerous.

I don't believe for a second that JC would have transferred even if Saul had stayed. I think it is a direct reaction to being upset over Saul's firing. As we said all along, if he can graduate in the summer then this is plausible.

Thru his injury and then the frustrating year as a team, Jason Carter has become extremely underappreciated by our fan base in my opinion.

Yes I know the next couple years are rebuild mode...that doesn't mean I don't want good players with strong character who give us a better chance to win. It's a huge blow and it sucks.

So that comment is essentially just conjecture, right? In a more fact based scenario, he specifically stated in an interview (can't recall the source at this moment) that he was looking to go somewhere to elevate his game and be challenged more, or something to that effect. He'll get that day in and day out at X. He'll get to play in a full house almost every night, and get to play in one of the best rivalry games in all of college sports as well. Could be worse for him. As for how much he'll play, I think plenty of people are underestimating how good he is/was. We'll see what shakes out next fall.

I wonder if we'll get the joy of this thread lasting 18-20 pages like the infamous Simmons thread?

Go to the X web site and you will see that they are sparse in the height department, don't know about new recruits.
The level of talent is a upgrade in the Big East each night.
I don't understand all the transfer rules and the graduation factor and how this would impact Jason.
I am sure that someone on this board will be following him come next season to report back his results.
My last question on this subject is: Did Jason sit down and meet Jeff prior to his decision to learn about Jeff and his strategy for the team moving on?

GO BOBCATS
Xavier has a top 20 recruiting class coming in ... so he will have some serious competition to see the floor.

The talent upgrade in the Big East ... to say it's an upgrade would be a drastic understatement.

In terms of transfer rules ... throw them out the window. The NCAA has no clue how to police this. It's a case-by-case basis and it's a joke. Carter claims he will graduate this spring or summer which would make him immediately eligible. If for some reason he does NOT graduate, that's where he'll have to seek a waiver to be granted immediate eligibility.

Did he sit down with Boals. I would lean toward yes. I cannot imagine this decision was made without at least a courtesy discussion with the new head coach. Now whether he was unimpressed with Boals or just flat out angry that Saul left .... or has pipe dreams of playing in the NBA (i.e. Jaaron Simmons) ... only he would be able to answer that and I'm guessing you won't get a truthful answer on the record from him. He's a good kid and will say all the right things ... just hope he's making all the right decisions.

He's undersized to really play in the post in the Big East and I don't think he's skillful enough to play the wing at Xavier. Puts him in an odd spot, in my opinion. Maybe with coaching, he'll improve enough to make an impact? But if you're asking for my honest opinion, I think he's a role player at absolute best at X. Sorry. I thought he was a very, very good complimentary player in the MAC. Wasn't a star ... but would excel in the MAC with a star. He's a Robin ... I don't think he's a Batman.

I think is a kind of a Jaaron Simmons 2.0 situation ... but I wish him the best. This is just a microcosm of college basketball now where commitments, whether it's from players or coaches, barely hold any water. It is what it is.

Either way ... it opens a spot for Boals to get "his guys" in here and find someone that will fit his style.
... he specifically stated in an interview (can't recall the source at this moment) that he was looking to go somewhere to elevate his game and be challenged more, or something to that effect. He'll get that day in and day out at X.
I always find these kind of quotes a little bit laughable. Why can't he elevate his game at Ohio? What is stopping him? it wasn't like he was dominating lesser competition in the MAC. He was on the second worst team in the league? Why not elevate your play and accept the challenge of pulling Ohio out of the dumpster and into the top half of the league? He's a guy who topped 20 points in only three MAC games this year. I just don't see how that translates into a not being challenged enough?
