Does anyone know if Boals has said anything about his staff ?

I know I read somewhere that some people think Gino will follow him here.

Stony Brook has made him Interim Head Coach.

Anyone think they may offer him Head Coach there ?

If Geno gets the head coaching job , he will not be joining Jeff at Ohio. If he doesnt get the head job, he will return to the Convo as Jeff's #1 assistant.
It would not surprise if Jeff decides to keep one member of Saul's staff.

I would think that how Stony Brook does in the CBI would influence how they look at considering him for Head Coach.

I would also think that,if they offer,he'd take it.

I hope Geno comes home, but if he does not, we should hire Gary Trent, DJ Cooper or Stevie Taylor. DJ could recruit chicago and help develop guards and Stevie and Trent would own Columbus. I would also look at jermaine Jackson out of spite, Jackson was a great mid major basketball player that can coach and recruit.

Um, I heard from multiple sources that Stevie was not a good citizen in the locker room his last two years. I'd assume Schaus is well aware of that.

And if you add his brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie they could provide better halftime entertainment.

Jermaine Jackson would be a great hire, he is very well respected and connected. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermaine_Jackson_(basketball )

I'm assuming that's one of the guys Treg was referencing in his post...

My understanding is that his staff is in place and one guy at most will remain from our current staff. I don’t think it appropriate to name names until it is formalized.

Interestingly, I also understand Saul has several options in front of him.

I love how we just assume any former basketball player is in the market for a coaching job...or that they would be good at it.

You have Tommy Freeman at Hargrave Military, Walter Offutt & David McKinley at UTennChatt, all great basketball minds. I mean, when do you decide when someone is ready to coach ? you either know the game or you don't.

Knowing the game is one thing, being able to recruit, teach, manage, motivate, and earn and keep respect and trust is another.

I found a reference searching on Bing to a base compensation of $730,000 for Boals on the link summary. Last year Phillips according to the Plain Dealer earned $633,874 in salary and benefits so its comparable but its a little higher than Phillips. The lowest paid MAC men's basketball HC in Ohio was Huger at BG $463,287 so the floor in the MAC is fairly high these days.

I picked two people with coaching experience and one former player with a high basketball IQ, who has led us to a sweet 16 appearance and commands respect and another who is probably the most beloved by the university and has also trained his son and others who have made it to the NBA. These would be coaches who can recruit and demand respect from the team. They would all be good hires, you have to think like a recruit. If Gary Trent came into my living room and said that he would coach me up, I would listen, lol. Geno would be great as well, he overcame a lot to be great at Ohio. Jermaine Jackson was intense when he played for UD on both ends of the court and recruits would love him as well. He is good friends with arguably the best player in the nba (Kevin Durant). He also recruited top high school players to attend a prep school in a small Ohio town.

DJ has his own issues to deal with

Stevie has a less than stellar locker room reputation.

But yes, they did play for us - so...what?

Don't need Stevie on the bench here. His antics on the bench at BC were annoying.

So you need to be old to do all that stuff ? Let Tommy Freeman & Walter Offutt show up at a recruiters house and let them tell their stories about coming to Ohio, beating Georgetown, making the Sweet 16, taking North Carolina to OT, the success in the classroom, The Convo and facilities, These 2 would be great recruiters, They have lived it .

Tommy Freeman - Assist Coach Hargrave Military also puts on shooting camps and clinics during the summer.

Walt Offutt - Assist UTChatt is coaching and recruiting players now.

I don't care who they are or where they come from. I want them to be excellent talent evaluators, top of the line at player development, and hungry for success.

I don't want to be too picky about the ut-Chattanooga thing, but from Chattanooga to the suburbs of Atlanta is a 94 mile drive. And there is not one single player from the Atlanta area on the ut-C roster. Which went 12-20 last season.

Just sayin'

(the last time ut-C had a winning season (2016-17), their top two players were from the Atlanta area, plus they had two from Memphis which is another hotbed for high school basketball talent)

Forget his staff. What does his wife and kids think about his "dream job"?? I have no clue about his wife??? Is she from Ohio/ OU ?? If not, culture shock might set in. As for the kids they have seen Akron, Columbus, and Long Island?
Sure hope they are into it. As the "vibe" / "culture" is way different.

I just saw that Stony Brook lost their game in the CBI.
Any word on Geno being elevated yet?

You think that will happen? Their board doesn't, but I can't see keeping the roster without some continuity

Geno interviewed yesterday for the head coach position, and my feeling is that he will most likely be offered the position. The wild-card in the deck is that the A.D. is somewhat young and inexperienced, so some people I know out that way are reluctant to predict what he might do. News will break soon.

Goodman says "source" says Geno is likely to be the guy there.
