Welp. That was a season of basketball that I will never again think about.
I wish that I could be that lucky to turn my mind off like that. This was such a frustrating season that it's going to be hard to forget. Maybe if we play like gangbusters next year, it'll help, but for now it's a painful memory.
+1
I can’t remember a more frustrating BB year, but 4 years ago in FB at 3-9 has this beat by a mile.
It wasn't an entire season but the way we lost in Christian's first year to Kron has me the angriest ever. The following year losing in the semis is a close 2nd. Guess I have a Jim Christian Complex.

The Toledo defense shut down OHIO once Searles took a seat. Was he begging to never go back in because he was gassed? Do assistant coaches tell the head coach that Searles was really producing on offense? Why would he not play? Hadaway gave Vic a nice break, why keep Hadaway out there when he wasn't even trying to be a force at the offensive end? Why did Elliott not get some time in regulation in the last five minutes to give someone a blow?

VERY GOOD BOBCAT CROWD--I doubt on day one if any team will have as good of showing including the Zipa crowd.

Sigh. Just the same old crap from this season. Almost feels merciful to end it.

Defense was messy chasing again, and honestly I thought we were fortunate several times as Toledo missed open looks both short and long. Our reckless defense put them at the free throw line and they hit them, 29/35 in total my goodness that is a lot of free throws.

Reef made it a lot easier to accept his graduation, my God some of the shots he took was the picture of "F it I'll figure it out." 3 for 14 from 2 and 2 of those 3 were assisted to the paint. He was terrible on offense. Similar story to a lesser extend with James, some really dumb overconfident shots. 8 for 30 between them.

Vic was fine except when we tried to funnel things thru him, he is just inviting a turnover and he had 3 big ones today. He shouldn't have the ball in his hands more than 1 second unless it is in the paint, and he should find the open man the 2nd a double team comes.

Hats off to Pavs, he got better and better throughout the year and is poised for a huge senior year, hopefully with us. Appreciate Hadaway's boost, he looked good after such a long absence. I also believe he is posed for a big senior year.

Clayton wasn't bad, he just wasn't "the man." I know he catches a lot of grief around here but he had a good 4 year career. He is the opposite of what the direction of college sports is right now, he just turned 21 a month ago and has depleted his eligibility and all at one school. Hats off to AJ a true Bobcat.

Hard to even rehash this game. Even with four seconds left and the lead I knew something bad was going to happen.

Don’t care if it wasn’t a foul…you can’t give the ref the opportunity to call it. Boals has a lot of soul searching to do this off-season. 1-11 against Toledo and 12-26 all-time against Toledo, Akron and Kent is unacceptable.

This season was a disaster. Time for Boals to usher some guys out of the program and hit the portal.

where was Elliot the last third of the game? Especially at the very end of regulation. He’s arguably our best on the ball defender at the guard position. I’m concerned he’s going to portal to a better situation (and i’m not referencing NIL) and I wouldn’t fault him.

A tale of two seasons. Expectations were low for the football team and they significantly exceeded them. Basketball was the complete reverse.

Of course, I was very disappointed in today's outcome, but given the way the team played this year, a first round exit is somewhat appropriate. It would have been a lot more disappointing if they played lights out all season and crapped themselves in the first round (in a one bid conference).

And so begins the most interesting part of the season, when hope springs eternal that we will find the next set of players to take us to the promised land.

To use an oft-employed analogy, I thought we were a team full of Robins. Pav, AJC, AJB would all be great second options, but there was no Batman on this team. It was bucket-getting by committee, with no real plan on who to go to when facing adversity. And hence the frequent collapses and periods of confusion.

We easily had to be one of the worst half court offenses in the country. Zero flow or plan all year.

Did not like the final defensive possession of regulation. Did we not learn anything from the Illinois game? Go zone press. Maybe don't even guard the inbounder if he's pinned to one spot on the base line. Keep the receiver of the pass in front of you and then maybe swarm him with a double team. Force them to move the ball through passing and burn off the clock.

Six assists on 32 made field goals. Not great. We had decent motion for the first half of the shot clock but once that option got cut off we resorted too much on one on one ball.

Alpha performance by Pavaletzke. I trusted every decision he made today. I wasn't sold on him to begin the year, but he came on great down the stretch. A priority to retain for next year.

Boals sure made it known after the game about all of the team’s injuries.

We gave it our best
Did we?

If that (the season) is our best then we need to assess the state of the program. If that (the season) is not our best then we need to assess the state of the leadership. Injuries go only so far as a justification before they become an excuse -- especially against the quality of opponents we regularly faced.

To me this is by far the most infuriating thing a coach can say. It happens overcome it.

Boals seemed less engaged this year and less happy in general. I saw a lack of coaching passion in him which is disappointing.

Complaining about injuries is the same as complaining about officiating. Get over it and play through the adversity.

I thought that I noticed the same thing, Perhaps, it was a perception thing and projection thing on my part, but it actually had me wondering in idle moments if he might be considering packing it in and seeking another line of employment. I guess we'll know very soon if that's the case. I highly doubt it, but the prospect of it did cross my mind.

The offense was never good but the inability to rebound, or generally play any defense at all, spelled disaster the entire season.

And how did we do those 9 games? Not great, Bob. It's also a slam on the other guys on your roster. If we had like 2 or 3 injuries knocking out the majority of a player's season sure but this is a stretch. Don't like it anymore than his constant hissy fits with the refs.

Not sure I saw the same thing. I see plenty of times he's pumping his fists and yelling to the crowd. He got so mad last week in Toledo that he got a T. We all see the dancing clips from the locker room after victories.

And didn't he recently move to Athens? Him living in Columbus was the thing many of you pointed to in years past about him not being "fully invested."

You just proved you never met former president Nixon with that comment.
