We’ve reached out to Incarnate Word’s Josh Akpovwa. 6’9, but pretty underwhelming stats at first glance. Hopefully not the commit that Lamar alluded to.

It’s on the previous page but apparently we’ve landed a commit.

I like him. He's definitely bigger and stronger than anybody we have in our front court.

But I'm having a little trouble seeing where he fits. Is he going to play at the 5 alongside of Hadaway? I'm all for more depth in the frontcourt though, and definitely am glad we've got him onboard.

This is "literally" a HUGE pickup for us. If we can keep Elliott and AJB with Pavs and Hadaway, next to Akron we would have to have the best starting lineup in the league. Then you throw in your young guns mixed with Sheldon, Kuany and Evans--boy oh boy! I loved Simmons game while he was at Toledo. He can pass, is burly and can hit a mid-range shot. Likes being in the post! Wow. What a great pickup.

Dude is 6-foot-7, 235 pounds--literally one inch shorter and 10 pounds lighter than AJ Clayton! He will mix in just fine with Captain Chaos! What a get! Now let's use that last scholly on a dude who is 6-8 to 6-10 with hops who is strong down low and can defend on the perimeter. If we get that, we are good to go!

I was actually wondering about this when the staff initially followed him even without any public acknowledgement. Also, Javan's agent is a classmate of mine (not that I think he influenced this), but I for sure thought he'd go P5 or maybe MVC/MW/A10.

Really excited about the add, nonetheless. With Simmons making a lateral conference move to the team he literally last beat in the MAC tourney, what does that say about Tod K and Toledo when you factor the max exodus over the last two portal seasons?

He's going to hate not playing against us. He'll have to find another team to pad his stats against.

18pts 7rebs, 22pts 6rebs, 15pts 8rebs in 3 games against Akron this past season.

12.5 pts, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists last season...

LETS GO

Why are you having trouble seeing where he fits? Because hes a frontcourt guy who wants to rebound and not be Steve Kerr waiting in the corner?

I'm giddy.

I also love how Javan's commitment graphic uses a clip of Spider-Man's suit turning black like he knows he's about to be a villain for the interconference transfer.

Where we go with the last scholarship will tell a lot about the team's identity in 2026. If Simmons is our starting five, we will be a little smaller but I will gladly trade Clayton's occasional 30 point game for more rebounding and a comparable scoring average on a better points per shot quotient.

I'm guessing Simmons is in fact, our starting 5. FWIW, we were apparently in on Sam Lewis as well.

Unsure if that means we'll continue to go after another wing, but I'm hoping for another rotational big.

He just seems like a 4 more than a 5.

That would be a heck of a 1-2 pick up of Simmons and Lewis. Would be happy with that, but if no Lewis, I still want a legit 6’9 guy.

Sam Lewis is headed to Virginia. But if we wanna stay in league and steal someone then give me Reece Potter everyday, all day.

Yea, as Bobcat 1998 said, Lewis landed at Virginia.

I imagine Simmons addition eliminates a few of the bigs we've been interested in, but I hope the scholly is still valid for Opurum and we're still considering the other JUCO Edwin Daniel. These two guy's player profiles would complement the Simmons addition well imo.

And there ya go. Scratch that dream.

Alright....we still need a legit 6'9 guy. Let's get after it. So far...a great start for Boals and Company in the portal.

If we are in the business of poaching in-conference, give me Potter or Felt from BG. I think the remaining scholarship should fit one of the following profiles:

1) A 6'9''+ big who is rotation ready

2) An upperclassmen jack of all trades wing with real wing size. Sean Moore at UNCW would be a fit.

I would take Potter in a heartbeat. Underrated in my opinion.
