Great dunk game.

Reef may have grazed a fingernail on iron with his breakaway. EJ4 also had a good opportunity that he couldn't quite reach.

I just want to say how much I really appreciate it. I find myself watching the games and both rating the dunks and anticipating your ratings. Love the running tally as well. My favorite post to see updated.

Nothing vs Kent

vs Toledo:
Elliott one hander on the fast break: 2/5
Searls in the half court off a great pick and roll: 1/5

I'm docking Searls for the rim hang tech. He should have learned his lesson from Morehead State. As much as I like seeing a little sauce on a dunk, there really is no reason to even grab the rim on a wide open two hand dunk off a two foot leap.

The Elliott dunk did pop me up in my chair, but mostly because he's a true freshman thrust into a more important role. It's still just an uncontested dunk from an athletic player. I thought he should have attempted a dunk off a press break in the second half. Instead he got spooked by the defender in the area and missed an awkward layup. Russell Westbrook would have gone for the hammer.

Evans mishandled an oop. Couldn't tell if the pass was off the mark.

Season totals:

Clayton 12
Hadaway 9
Evans 5
Searls 4
Elliott 2
Brown 1

Elliot was pointing for an alley oop on a first-half 2-on-1 fastbreak, shortly after his 2/5 fastbreak dunk. However, Sheldon passed the ball off to Elliott too early, resulting in a contested missed layup.

I remember that, and thought the same.

Elliott two hander on a pick-six: 2/5
Evans alley oop on a garbage time fast break: 2/5

The young pups had some fun.

That's our third technical foul for hanging on the rim this season. I docked Searls last time because it was a careless play and he should have know better. I don't like the call on Elliott. You got a guy going full speed and up with two hands. If he grasps the rim even slightly, he has to get himself settled before letting go. I don't buy that he swung his legs up intentionally.

Evans was open for another alley but the pass hit the rim.

vs App State:
AJ Brown tip dunk in the half court: 2/5

If this game were closer or we were winning by a margin, this might be a 3, but at the 1:21 mark the outcome was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Impressive play. I couldn't watch the game and was listening in my car. Toy didn't say it was a dunk on the broadcast, but it sounded like a bigger reaction than a regular putback layup. The ESPN pbp originally called it a jumper. Good thing I went to our pbp to check. Accounting is crucial.

Evans 6

Really wish he could have held on when he got his own rebound off a missed three and a nearly clear lane to the rim, but a defender got him on his wrist.

A missed putback by AJB, one of several miscues down the stretch. Also thought he was going to slam one when no one picked him up going coast to coast.

Odd that Torvik's accounting and yours don't completely match. I don't keep track so no idea what's more accurate pbp representation (assume yours?) he has:

Clayton - 15
Hadaway - 8
Searls - 6
Evans - 4
Elliott - 3
Brown - 2

Sometimes box scores will list a dunk as a layup or jumper, especially ESPN's during live gameplay. For example, AJ Brown's putpack against App State is still a jumper on ESPN's pbp but it's a dunk on our site. I don't always see our games so I do look at pbp, because this is important. At least one pbp credited Clayton with a dunk at Marshall on an inbound alley oop but the video doesn't qualify it in my opinion.

I'm positive on my Searls/Evans/Hadaway accounting.

I, too, won't question Shab and his rating scale. I just thought that the Clayton dunk for the first points of the game against Akron was a 2 in style and performance, but it seemed to be a mood setter, coming less than 30 seconds into the game. Having that be our first score of the game seemed to energize Clayton and the team throughout.

I would give that one at least a 4/5.

AJC looked at Boals before the inbound and they called the play. AJ had quite the leap and stretch to get a hand on the ball then quite the stretch to put it down!

Elliott 3
Brown 2

7 alley oops, 2 tips

An okay dunk year that would have undoubtedly been better had Clayton and Hadaway not missed so many combined games. Some years we didn't hit 30.

Top five dunks:

1) Evans alley oop and-1 at Buffalo, our only SC Top 10 on the season
2) Clayton at CMU. Two hands running full speed on the break, meeting the defender chest to chest. Really liked that one.
3) Clayton coast to coast two hander vs Ball State
4) Clayton BLOB alley oop vs Miami
5) Hadaway Blake Griffin putback over Pau Gasol lookalike vs Ball State
